Computer won't recognize PT USB device

my computer keeps giving me a message that it doesn't recognize my PT USB device.  This is happening all of a sudden.  I reinstalled Power Agent and even called Saris and then sent me additional drivers to download.  The computer says it has the drivers installed, but then doesn't connect them with the USB device.  I finally got it to work yesterday per Saris advice of uninstalling everything, then installing the drivers they sent me first, then the new addition of Power Agent.  Today I go to hook up and I get the same message.  Tried uninstalling drivers and power agent, then reinstalling and I'm still getting the same message.  Any computer people that could help with this?----I don't use power agent, just want the drivers so I can download to WKO+ (older version).

Thanks, Keith

  • Operating system? And is this the newer USB cradle, or the serial one with a USB adapter attached?

Have you tried uninstalling PowerAgent and the drivers, then letting the operating system install just the drivers (since you want to use WKO+)? Finally, exactly where does this message come up? In WKO+?
  • it's windows XP operating system. i have the first version of the wireless, so i'm not sure which cradle that is. you click the LYC in and plug the attached cord into the USB.

I've uninstalled poweragent and the drivers. i'm not sure what you mean by "letting the operating system install just the drivers". the message comes from the bottom right hand corner of the screen near the clock. when i open up WKO+, it never gives me a COM port that's linked to a USB.
  • I had something similar happen a few months back -- I think my Garmin (but who knows) confused the USB ports. Try cycling through USB ports and trying to match them with COMM 1, 2, 3 in WKO. That worked for me.

  • Things to try:
--Plugging the cradle into another computer to see whether it is recognized there, or might be bad.
--Installing just the drivers Saris supplied, then trying WKO+ to see if the cradle shows up. (That is, not PowerAgent)
--Plugging in the cradle, getting that message in the tray, using Hardware Manager (right-click on My Computer to find it) to find the incorrectly-installed cradle, then installing the driver from there (click or right click the entry, probably under Unknown Device)
--Trying as many different USB ports as your computer has, front and back. This shouldn't work but often does.
--Bourbon and branch water on the rocks.
  • tried just installing the drivers without power agent----get same message

when i plug in the cradle and use the hardware manager to install the driver, it tells me that i've got the best driver already installed, but the error message tells me that there is no driver installed.

tried all USB ports on the computer---nothing.

i'll bring it to work today to see if i can get the cradle to work there.

ahhhh, computers are so frustrating. thanks for all of your suggestions. please keep them coming before my computer takes the leap of faith out the window.
  • I feel your pain. One more thought occurs.

In Device Manager (My Computer, right-click), try looking under "Ports," just in case you haven't already. The cradle should show up there, with its COM port designation.

Please warn those below if your computer might take a jump, and don't get caught in the mouse cord yourself. --DRM
  • I started having download problems after my computer got an Automatic update that was NOT related to any of my sporting software (HP or Vista, i forget now...)

Not sure if you have that set up (auto update). I turned it off and update what I want AFTER I set a back up point in case something no longer works after the back up.

    It's an idea.
  • just received a new cradle from sarius. plugged it in, worked right away. thank god as i think i only had another hour or two of space after this weeks rides.
