Eye see Sweat

With the extreme heat across the country many of us have been figuring out how to still get the work done. I am wondering if anyone has any tips on how to keep sweat out of your eyes. My contacts and the heavy sweat doesn't mix too well. It seems that on almost every ride over 1hr that I end up rubbing my eyes because of the sweat and causing my contact to fall out.

Thanks,

Pete

  • This is a great question. This has been happening to me too. I am not going to wear the gutter.
  • When I run, I coat my eyebrows with Vaseline and that keeps the sweat out of my eyes. The vaseline makes it run to the back. Sounds crazy but works well. Seems like I tried it years ago on the bike and it made my sunglesses a real mess. But give it a try. Its cheap.
  • I just got the Gutr this last week.  I can't believe how good it works, especially on the run.  It is very thin and fits under my hat or visor, I can't even tell it's on.  It has been a very hot summer,  I have been having trouble with so much sweat and salt getting in my eyes I literrally have been having to stop and wash my face off so I can see where I am going.  My problem has been solved.  Works OK on the bike too but works best for running.

  • @Pete - try out the Gutr, I think it would probably do the trick.

@Dave - I would think that the Vaseline would get all over the inside of your sunglasses - have you had a problem with that?

One other general suggestion - ALWAYS wear a hat. It will absorb and evaporate a lot of sweat. I wear one for this purpose even if the sun is not even close to being out. (one other nice thing about wearing a hat in the dark, you can tip your head down and mask out oncoming headlights which would otherwise blind you).

I'm going to start a "Sweat" page in the wiki too - it's Summertime!!

  • Similar type suggestion to vaseline that I have used with success on the bike is chapstick just a quick line acroos the head andit channels it away enough to keep it out of your eyes.
  • I wear a bandana while on the bike and it works great. No sweat in my eyes or glasses after 112 miles in the heat on Saturday.
