IM Nutrition Question (or two)
1st....when "they " rec. 500-1000mg of Sodium....is this Sodium or Sodium Chloride amount?
2nd....I do almost all of my training with Ensure (350cal/bottle with protein and fat)....use it at a rate of 250-300cal/hr. Had some great workouts with it .......I've used Infinit in the past races (cause its the stuff used alot)....but seem to underachieve.....IOW Ive had much higherwatts the bike in training than in races at the same RPE. Contemplating using Ensure in the IMLOU (even though dont need much protein and fat....as far as Ive read) supplemented with a total of 1000mg of Na+ instead of the Infinit..if Ive had good RR and long workouts with it why not just use it in the race. My plan would be if I have some bloating or stomach issues (which I dont get in training) just go with water for a period of time.

I have done Ensure in rides, but ended up burping (then farting) my way through an Ironman...no more for me. I do use it pre-race however...

1. Hot day so increase blood flow to skin to cool off = decrease blood flow to gut
2. Fat in stomach causing delayed gastric emptying, slowing of intestinal peristalsis
How about increasing the amount of protein in your Infinit and/or increase the number of Cal/hour with Infinit?
