Not tri-related, good mojo wanted tomorrow - Dissertation Proposal

I am presenting my dissertation proposal tomorrow afternoon at 3PM CDT.  It is not sports-related, but looking at the relationship between fruit and vegetable, and fat intake and binge eating symptoms in African American and Hispanic women.  I feel confident about the presentation and that my proposal will be approved, but don't think it hurts to ask for you guys to send me some extra good thoughts mojo, too.

After I propose (and it is approved), I'll start the analysis (my advisor already has all the data).  The plan is to defend October/November and graduate in December.

I appreciate all your support!

  • Good luck Penny!
  • Good luck! I will think good thoughts for you tomorrow while you present!
  • Best of luck! (I'm usually on the other side of these!) This is so late in your PhD process, I have to assume that they don't let you go up for it unless they are pretty confident that they will approve your proposal!
  • my mojo is on the way! Good luck
  • Good luck, Penny!
  • Thanks guys. Just a little over 2 hours until show time. I smile when I get each message.

@William: Yeah, they wouldn't let me propose if they didn't think I was ready.

PhD = Degree in persistence. This is just one more hoop to jump through.

  • PHD = Piled Higher and Deeper! image But wishing you all the best. Paul Hough, PhD!
  • Sending you all the best!

  • By the time you get this note, I'm sure it will be all over and you'll have some appropriate imbibement in hand. :-)

We have our "oral" in the 5th semester, and it CAN be a filter point (though it's pretty uncommon for anything bad to happen). Despite its rarity, the students all get very nervous, and I suppose that's appropriate. What they have a hard time understanding is that something that is this HUUUUGE part of their lives is just another hope-it's-at-least-interesting-and-doesn't-go-on-forever run of the mill meeting for all the other professors besides their own major professor.... kinda like the guy who plays the music at your wedding...just another gig. :-)

    Hope it all went super!
  • I passed! I need to make some revisions to the proposal before I can get my hands on the data and start analysis. Their comments were not unexpected. The questions were easy.

@William: I totally understand. Being an "older" student I think I understand more about preparing and exactly what you say - "just another student proposal." I'm fortunate that my committee is supportive. A friend of mine is having hell with one of his committee members (who used to me my major professor). He proposes this afternoon. It is going to be painful.

But, I get a celebration massage this morning, and more sleep!

Thanks for all the support everyone!

  • Congratulations Penny!
  • woo hoo!!!! congrats!

  • Well done Penny, like the massage idea.

  • Late to the party! Glad to hear it went well. You are excellent at what you do.
