outer ankle electric shooting sensation

There is an area on the outer part on my right ankle that seems to be tender and when touched I get a an electric sensation down to my outer three toes.  I will try to attach a picture of my ugly foot and I am pointing at the area.  No noticeable swelling or other visible thing.  Does not hurt to run, bike or swim, only when I touch the area or really stretch it.  Thoughts or suggestions?  Thanks,

Dave

  • Sounds like a pinched nerve. the more superficial ones in the lower leg in particular tend to get snagged with repetitive sports. The good news is that you only get the electrical stuff when you poke around or mess with the area. Waaaaaaay better than if you had it all the time or during activity. image

Not something to worry about outright as far as cease all activity, but time to get to work to fix it. You can either dig it out yourself or shell out some cash with your favorite sports massage therapist. You'll want to focus on your shin muscles, the muscles along the outside of your lower leg, and your calf. Once you get those areas loosend up that electrical feeling should go away. If doing it yourself, check out athletestreatingathletes.com. click on the self muscle massage series over on the right and look for the posts for the calf and shin/lower leg.

  • Thanks Leigh. I will give that a try. Dave
