Profile Design Rubberbands

I thought I had bought enough of these at my last IM, I was wrong.  The onsite store (can't remember who it was IMFL 2009) they had a whole basket of them behind the counter.

They crack, they break, they sit in my vehicle in extreme temperatures.  I see no sense in buying the sponge, and straw kit as I have about 4 of them already.  Can someone tell me where I can get some of these things.

  • Dan-

I went to Staples and just bought a bag of relatively thick/large rubber bands (not nearly as large or thick as the "official" ones) and they seem to work just fine. 5000 of them for $1. (OK, so I exaggerate a little.) I know it HAS to be less firm (or at least more stress on the rubber bands), but it doesn't seem to make any difference functionally.

This may depend on your exact setup, e..g,., whether you require the bracket - I don't. But it's worth a shot.
  • I need some more too, I will have to keep my eyes open at expos, I didn't know they sold them individually. in the mean time good idea using rubber bands.

  •  I like the ones that they use to wrap broccoli.  They are not nearly as long but hold things nice and tight.  I do not use my PD bottle anymore and think I have some of the black ones around.  Let me know if you get desperate and I will try to find them and mail them to you.

  • If you have kids, buy them some moon shoes:

They come with a huge mess of rubber bands that seem identical to the Profile Design ones. The shoes are essentially a foot-shaped platform suspended in a frame by a bunch of rubber bands. They come with plenty of extras.
  • Regarding Chris's post...that's exactly the kind of thing I meant... but we just went to the shop and eyeballed them, getting the biggest looking reasonable ones.
  • @ Jessica yeah they had them behind the counter, after they had a bunch of the sponge, straw, rubber band kits laying out. I gave some away as well.
  • I like the broccolli idea, my small local store wraps it in plastic but I know of some other grocery stores that have them. That is how mafia guys wrap their wad of cash btw! Per the book Making Jack Falcone
  • I love using the mount. Very easy to get on and off and holds the bottle securely without any rubberbands.

  • I use the mount as well, cheap and effective.

  • Yep, I use the mount also. It has worked great.
  • Tell u what I and many others out here use........ we snip out bands from used tubes. I cut a 8inch section of tube, slit it open, trace out a thin football shape, this allows for thin ends. then tie knotts, two these babies and the bottle never moves....
  • I use the mount and never have any problems.

  • I use the mount and rubber bands, I like both no rattle

I need to try that out.

  • I can't use the mount alone. My areo bars are too close together that the little ends won't latch around so I can velcro them , I can use it if I have the rubber bands too, or I just use the rubber bands. So the broccoli (or asparagus) ones are too small. I prefer both b/c my drink bottle already rubbed the coating off my new bars image

I think mine will hold up for Boulder next weekend, but I will certainly be on the look out for a box of new ones.

I used to do that on my old bike- it was bomb proof and rattle free- loved it.  But the mount won't fit on my new bike, so it's just the rubber bands.  I usually pick up extras at the expos if I need them or not- just in case!

  • I have an old PD bottle that didn't come with a mount. I just have some stick on velcro on the bars and the bottle and then I fasten it down with Goody StayPut hair elastics. The stupid straw clacking around in the bottle is my primary annoyance of late. I'm scheming for a new base/aero bar combo though so that might change my set up....
  • Follow if you break some rubber bands, email or call

they offered to send me some new ones no questions asked.
Now that I think about it they sent me some new arm rests as well last year. I would say I've had pretty good experience with profile design customer service.
