TSS/IF/PMC available in Training Peaks Online

Per the latest email from Training Peaks, they now have the TSS/IF/NP calculations, PMC, mean max power, and power distribution in the online software.  I took a quick look around and they are now offering most of the key features of WKO+ in the online version.  I also notice there is now sTSS (swim TSS).   I bet it is only a matter of time until you can do detailed file analysis and quadant analysis online as well.

I wonder if they are going to try and phase out WKO and go to an online only model to get the recurring revenue?  However If that was the case I doubt they would have just released WKO 3.0 this year.

Here is the email:

Training Stress Scores (TSS) and Performance Management Chart (PMC) Now Available Online!

Now on TrainingPeaks, the workout analysis tools many of you have enjoyed for years in our desktop WKO+ software are available online:  find out just how hard your workout really was with new online Training Stress Scores (TSS) and track your fitness over time with the Performance Management Chart (PMC).

Based on the gold-standard analysis system that has been available on our advanced WKO+ desktop software for half a decade, online workout scores can be calculated based on power, heart rate, and more, allowing athletes to earn a score for a variety of different workouts and compare many different types of training. Scores can even be calculated based on data that you already have recorded in your account: click here to learn how to use our back-fill calculator tool to instantly update your charts with all your past data, and make sure you have set your threshold values correctly to ensure accurate scores. Learn how to add the TSS tab to your workout Quick View here.

The really powerful benefit of tracking your daily TSS is you can now leverage the TrainingPeaks Performance Management Chart to easily track your fitness progression over time. TrainingPeaks’ advanced formulas will accurately calculate your fitness (known as Chronic Training Load or CTL), fatigue (known as Acute Training Load or ATL) and finally your freshness or form (known as Training Stress Balance or TSB).

  • This could solve many of the Mac and Windows PC issues that many experience.
  • Matt, I saw this as well and actually asked them via Twitter if this was going to replace the desktop WKO. Their response:

"There are still plenty of features in WKO+ software that are not available in TrainingPeaks - just TSS, IF and PMC r online"

"Also keep in mind that WKO+ is a one-time licensing fee, while TrainingPeaks is a subscription service for premium features"
  • They are 100% going online. They love their TP.com subscription revenue and could use more, it's probably more of an ownership / revenue share deal on their end. They'll be 100% online soon enough, and look for the "modules" in the online version to include content from other external providers (Think apps for your iPhone, etc.).
  • Verifying a few current limitations, you cannot highlight a section and get NP (e.g., for an FTP test), and it's a bit klunky to even get "today's TSS" still. You can get it as a point on a chart in the dashboard view, but it doesn't (yet) appear as part of the workout summary or data for a workout.

These seem simple enough to work out, though. I assume they will.

Also, the sTSS appears to be calculated just by the time, distance, and a threshhold pace that you feed it.
