Three Bullets Advice Needed for IM Moo...

Folks -

You guys crushed it BIG TIME with your IM Louisville information, so I am repeating a call for contributions, only this time for Wisconsin. Please post your one must know / do tip for Madison for the swim bike and run, I'll use the best ones. Thanks!!!

  • I haven´t done WI, but  lack of experience has never stopped me from giving advice.  So Ill paste the same as those from Lou.

    1. Be prepared to race in the heat

    2. be prepared to race in the heat

    3. Don´t eat the paste.

  • On the bike course, just remember this. If there is a sharp turn in the road, you can almost be certain it's a short steep climb around that hidden corner, so be in an easy gear. And when you make that turn and stay to the left 'cause everyone else will be trying to get over to right since they just dropped their chain.

    too soon!

  • I must modify Dave's advice.

    1. Be prepared to race in the heat

    2. Be prepared to race in the cold

    3. Don´t eat the paste.

Seriously! There have been both extremes within the past 5 years ranging from low 50's and rain to upper 90's. Be prepared for both.

  • In addition to Dave and Matt's tips ... be ready for a significant weather change during day

Ingore all the crap on slowtwitch about the water conditions. It will be safe and fine.

If you want to swim fast line up inside of the ski ramp, if you want your own space line up outside of the swim ramp.

Transition is no big deal. You go up and down the parking ramps and get to go inside. Yes, it takes a while, but everyone has to do it.

If there is a descent be prepared for a quick corner and slow down. (If there is a guy with a megaphone saying slow down, he means it).

Don't expect others to know the course, they will be all over the road on Garfoot... ride defensively and stay safe.

If you hit a head wind going west on 92/G on the second loop, be happy as that means tail wind on Whalen back into Madison :-)

Ride as easy as you can, you will be happy you did when you are counting roadkill on the run.

Try to avoid smelling all the food on street street on your first lap. On the second lap, use it as motivation to finish faster so you can go eat.

Sure it is a chain, but a double bacon cheeseburger with fries at Five Guys tastes great after finishing and its on the run course!

I guess my math isn't so good since I forgot how to count to 3 ...

Right on Nemo- one corner I can think of is county G to 92!!

So true. People destroy themselves on the bike course. Spectating on Timber Lane last year with the coaches was a revelation. Sit on your watts and let them all go!
  • I think it's worth paying special attention to the Garfoot descent on the drive of the course. It's Garfoot (ok/safe), jog left, quick right back to Garfoot, and that second one is the one with the tight curve at the bottom ... one of the prime places the guy will be yelling for you to slow down.
  • You do not have a flat on Stagecoach. It just sounds like that.

    SOOOOOOOO True!!!!

  • Start your swim at the water ski jumping platform (if it's still there.)

Walk to the spiral, then RUN up the ramps on the INSIDE (not the out) getting into T1 & 2.

Do not stop for a break at the sidewalk cafes on the run.

There's usually a tail wind coming home on the bike - if it's there, use that to your advantage.

  • Movie coming soon, thanks all!!!
