Speedfil Tip

I know a few of us switched to a Speedfil this year. IMLP was my first experience filling it on the fly and I have a quick tip to share: take out that funnel underneath the cap! The water bottles on the bike course have a top valve like a regular water bottle (the kind you pull up with your teeth). But when I jammed the top into the Speedfil cap, the water bottle top would hit the side of the funnel and close. Mucho annoying.

  • Thanks for that tip Suzanne! I have a Speedfil and am using it for IMLOU. Will add this to my list of 'to do's.
  • Thanks for the heads up. Do you remember how big the bottles of water were on the IMLP bike course? like as big as a regular bike water bottle? I've mounted a water bottle cage between my aerobats and want to make sure I can see my bike computer I front of it.
  • @Suzanne- good to know! thx. image I've gotta break mine out and start using it.

@Kitima- they looked like the generic (meaning no shaped weird like the plastic saving poland spring) 16-20 oz sports cap water bottles you can snag at gas stations. One of those should be super close in size. I did the same thing adding a water bottle up front and wound up moving my computer to the tip of my aerobars and made a little mount there to allow the space (my stem is too fat for a computer apparently). to be honest. I love having it out by my fingertips. easier to play with while staying in the bars.
  • Kitima,

They were a little bit shorter than a regular sport bottle.
  • Has anyone used the speedsok for the speedfil? Just curious if they work, since it will be a little warm in Louisville.
  • Thanks for the info Suzanne
  • I do not refill the speedfil so to keep it from splashing at all I put a piece of packing tape over the hole after filling it and then screw the cap on top.

On race morning I bring two 20oz bottles to fill it and then suck the liquid up the straw and close the bite value. This way it is ready when I get on the bike and I don't have to suck and air down.
