Endurance Nation Training discussion on Slowtwitch
There is a discussion going on about the run part of training on slowtwitch, link at the bottom. The person that started says he has been training with EN. Thought it may be useful for those who have a better grasp of EN training philosophy to chime in.

In 1999, I was starting from the same place - my exercise for the previous decade had been cycling, especially Mtn Biking and long distance touring; and weight lifting (as well as downhill skiing in the winter.) Never ran a step until I wanted to do a sprint tri. It was 2.5 years - after I'd down a couple of IMs and HIMs - that I started playing around with speed and intensity in my run training. I'm glad I spent those 2-3 years just gaining neuromuscular experience with volume and frequency, I think it's what helped keep me injury free once I did start doing track intervals and hill work.
The posters on that thread who advice slowly building volume and frequency are espousing what Lydiard and Daniels both preach - training for the long haul, so to speak, not short term gains.
Now, the EN coaches may see it differently as to when to start adding harder stuff, but I'd think 6-18 months of 30-35 mi/week, 3-5 days a week is necessary if one is starting literally from scratch with running.
Hey folks,
I'm doing a driveby of the forum before my flight home from Atlanta. Would be great if you could represent, if needed. I'm afraid to click on the link before I get on the plane
