2011 Season Planning Thread

Hey guys & gals,

There has been a lot of chatter lately about the 2011 season. This has encouraged me to take a moment and put pen to paper and see how things are shaking out. I thought I would start this thread so that others could bounce plans/ideas/questions off the house.

So far I have the following plans. The one thing I am looking for is an early season sprint or oly distance tri. I would like it to be near the end of the OS or early in my first race prep. Other than that I think I have an exicting 2011 lineup. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • how funny... I mapped this all out myself yesterday during my lunch break (although I didn't use the cool tool online... just a paper calendar with a pencil).

I'm doing a late season IM this year (IMFL)... so I had a hard time figuring out when to start things off, so I calculated backwards from my anticipated IM....  There's no real time for fun stuff... but that's okay.  I might do Columbia OLY in May, during HIM prep.  Other than that, this is my season:

    December OS (20 weeks) - begin 12/6

    transition week 4/18-4/25

    HIM prep (6 weeks) - begin 5/2

    Eagleman HIM (B+/A-) 6/12/11

    recovery week 6/13-6/19

    IM prep (12 weeks) - begin 6/20

    IMWI (A+) 9/11/11

Philly marathon (B) - late November

  • I have had mine mapped out since the day after I signed up for IM CDA. It's on my work PC so I will attach later when I get in. A couple of thoughts.
Patrick had mentioned something in passing on one of his chats that the OS plans might be slightly different this year so keep that in mind.
Pete, Bassman will be a perfect sprint/Olympic tri. .5 swim, 29mi bike, 4.2mi run. Fun race. Usually last weekend of April. Probably the weekend after the big weekend.
Maybe we get together for the big weekend?
Have you signed up for Austin yet? There is a new HIM starting this year around that time in Hunterdon County which could be promising.

Becky, can't believe you are torturing yourself with EM again!!!! Hoping for cooler weather this year.
  • @Tucker: I am a little bit concerned with putting a race (Bassman) that far into my Race Prep. However, I definitely need to have something shorter before CdA just for the experience. So the Bassman might actually work, and is close. Other than CdA and ToC I haven't signed up for any other races. I assume you are talking about the JerseyMan? It looks like it was held in May this year. I am open to suggestions. Austin just fit into the schedule real nice like. I was considering IMFL, but I think one IM for this year is enough.

@Becky: Good thing about paper and pencil, they always work :-). Looks like you have a great season lined up. Someday I am going to have to figure out what all this EM fuss is about.

Pete, here is a link to the race I was talking about.  Same guy running the race.  http://www.paceracing.org/ ; And I hear what you are saying about a race in race prep but in our area we don't have many, if any, options pre race prep.  Weather just sucks.  I know it isn't reccomended but it is a good 2+ hours of work.  29 miles on the bike at a good IF is all good by me.

  • @Tucker: Thanks for the link. The race looks interesting. If they flipped the bike route to the north they could of included Fiddler's Elbow . In fact the Oxford Olympic race actually circles the climb. I think the Bassman may be the way to go. I will see what some ofher WSMs have to say before making a final decision. 2011 isn't even open for registration so I have some time.

  • @Peter - I think your early season looks good with the OS and RacePrep for CDA. Unless you are going to Kona, you don't _need_ an early race. IM after all, is the slowest race you'll do all year. And racing an Oly has nothing to do with racing an IM (just sayin). That said, I'd plan on more time after CDA and before your 70.3 race prep. More lik a month (2 weeks full recovery, 2 weeks light activity, then back at it). Otherwise good!

@Becky - I think your season as written looks good (I am a pretty visual doode however). Ithink you should be able to handle the full 12 weeks to IMWI _if_ you are able to stick to just 6 weeks of race prep for Eagleman.

    Gonna be a great year!!!
