Where's Larry Gilbert?
Well, I've been kind of a lurker this summer. So I thought I'd give everyone a quick update.
I always felt part of the team, and definitely got some needed inspiration looking at everyone's posts and race reports (great job to all BTW). But, I wasn't in Tri mode....I was on a Leadville 100 MTB mission. I haven't swam since last summer, and haven't ran since Feb. As my wife has said, I was willing to ride with anyone.
My plans for a big bike week at ToC got a little derailed as I had to come home early for work. But I still managed to ride an average of 250 miles per week all summer. And for the last month, I've been working and traveling from CO, so I have spent a solid 4 weeks of doing nothing but trail riding on my MTB. I have also been lucky enough to be on the Leadville 100 course 4 times in the past month. And let me tell you....that is one tough course. Grades get to 23%. At first I was scared out of my pants on some of the more technical and steeper descents. But my handling and descending skills have come a long way in the last month. I've seen every inch of that course mutiple times and feel very comfortable on it. Now it's just a matter of doing it under 12 hours. I've done all I can do, and now I'm ready to Rock! I have no disillusions about how hard this ride is going to be, but I feel ready.
So I've been out of sight, but hopefully not out of mind. I just wanted to give a quick check in and hope everyone has been well. Think of me on Saturday and I'll send a race report afterwards.

Leadville is on my bucket list, and I'll apply for the lottery every year (like I do for Kona).
Great to hear from you! Sounds like a lot of fun in an extremely painful sort of way. Seems like you are ready though! Looking forward to the RR.
Have a great race this weekend! I hope you CRUSH it and have fun!!
Hi Larry! I can't wait to hear tales of Leadville!
Hi Larry! That''s going to be one helluva race report! Glad you checked in. Keep riding and stay safe! Looking forward to hearing all about it!
Larry-Leadville sounds like a very hard race!!! I did Horribly Hilly Hundreds (200K) this past June....I actually just got normal strength back in my right hand and fingers....I think I had some neuropathy due to shifting seemed like all the time...not to mention my pansy attempt on the decesents....was braking ALOT!!! Well, good luck, godspeed, stay safe and race smart....can't wait to hear your report!
Larry,
I'm totally jealous as you'd know. You have to share all the details and war stories of the day. (can't wait to hear) I figured you'd gone into hiding to just focus on the bike getting ready. I hope I get into the race in the next few years. If I do I'll be looking to you for all the pointers.
Go out and kill it!! Oh and enjoy the pain, as there will be plenty of it.
Larry Gilbert, name sounds familiar...any relation to this guy:

you had to go there??? Yep, I'm good friends with Paul and Steve....I was there, they snapped a pic, and that's how you get famous I guess.
Hey Larry,
Looking forward to your race report! Bring a camera!
I saw it in the back of Triathlete. Not just a local superstar!
