Boulder 70.3

Well, I have to say after not making my goal in Kansas, Boulder turned out to make me much happier

I got up that morning and luckily had a hotel a little farther north and missed the traffic that was backed up trying to get into the park. No problems setting up my transition. I even got a warmup swim in since they had a designated area (even after the race had started).

Swim, 37.53 (a PR for me) no issues really, I caught a draft when I could.

T1 2:55, a bit slower than usual, but we also had further to run

BIKE The first 6 or so miles is a gradual climb which stinks when you are trying to get your heart tate down after the swim. after than it smooth sailing.

1st lap 1:27  Ave HR 160 (top of Z3)  2nd lap 1:32  ave HR 152 (bottom of Z3)   Total 3:00 another PR

T2 2:28 I had a great spot in transition close to the bike in and run out, but I had to make a potty break before the run. This could have been A LOT quicker.

Run, well I knew this was going to be a hot one, and it was. there isn't much more to say, it sucked.

1st 6.5 miles 59:01    2nd 6.5 miles 1:03.40  Total 2:02:10, not a PR

Overall 5:46.30 a PR by 20 seconds     I am very happy with my last Tri of the year. I know even with a slower bike my run would have been the same. To have improved on my swim and bike time is a sucess. Looking forward to another EN off season to shave off some more time image

  •  Congrats on the PR.  And by finishing, you're already one up on me.  I've signed up for that race 4 times and never finished (1 DNS and 3 DNFs).  I really love the bike course for that race.  They don't get much faster.  The run is flat, but brutal without any shade.  Glad to hear you went out of your 2010 season on a high note!

Come back and do it again next year!  That's my A-Race for the season.

  • Hooray Jessica!! I am so excited for your PR! I followed you that day and kept sending good and speedy thoughts your way. The run at this race is and always will be brutally hot. But you managed it well. Several of my friends had issues on the run this year and didn't see their usual run splits. I think that suggests that they didn't manage the conditions as well as you did.

Congratulations! Now, enjoy some good downtime with your kiddos!

  • Steve, when I fiinished I told myself I was NOT doing this race again. The run is sooooo brutal (as Olivia puts it). I just hate ending a race feeling so bad about a run (my favorite part of the race). I like to hurt b/c I left everything on the course, not b/c the course sucked it from me. Ugh, it's so close to home though.

Olivia, Thanks, I did keep up on the Elctrolytes. I am always wondering if I drink enough water. Only 1 large botttle and 1 small bottle for the whole bike. Should I pratics drinking more? Maybe I should do a sweat test. Anyways, My run splits were about the same as last year. For THIS course I guess that is ok.

Now for the Pikes Peak Ascent next weekend, yikes!
