Achiles Tendonitis recovery expectations
I'm wondering about how long it takes to heal and how I should re-introduce running / biking.
The long version.....
I tried out a pair of racing flats @ the end of the out season, I did too much too soon in them and really tightened up my calves, that led to an inflamed achiles. I stop running for 6 weeks and just swam and biked during that time.
For some reason that I cannot quite remember I moved the cleats on my bike shoes forward a little, not thinking about the effect that this would have (more acute angle between the foot and the shin, means the tendon and calf have to stretch more).
I thought I was pretty much over it, but I went out and biked hard a few weeks back with a hard run the following day and was limping the rest of the week. I'm now in my 2nd week of imposed rest, no biking and no running) and it's starting to feel a whole lot better.
Now I'm looking to start back, obviously I need to dial down the intensity, but I'm not sure if I should go with full rest until it's gone, or if I'm better just doing easy runs & bikes and how long should I expect to feel it before it goes away. I'm lucky in that my season is over and I'm clear until the outseason starts.
