CycleOps PowerBeam Pro - anyone try this yet?

Anyone out there have any experience with the CycleOps Power Beam Pro trainers? Are they easy to use? Can you easily do your intervals/tests on them and then download to WKO?   Comparison to Computrainer for setup & ease of use?

Looking for something that's simpler (less fragile) to setup and take down, with the idea of using it for group indoor training where most folks wouldn't have powermeters already on their bikes.  Thanks for any input!

  • We had this, actually 4 different ones over the span of a year. There were software issues. The Powerbeam would tell Max he was generating 300 watts, compare it to his PT and he was generating 150. Saris was clueless. He finally demanded a refund and we got a computrainer. Much less hassle.
  • Thanks for the feedback, Michele - not sounding like a viable option, especially if the upcoming CompuTrainer software is anything like they're saying it will be (assuming it's actually released this fall, as advertised!).
  • I was being tested on one with a metablic cart 18 month'ish ago and find had similiar experience. I knew I wasn't pushing 275 watts cause I know what that feels like. It may have improved since then.

  • So far so good is my experience.  Watts seem about right, alittle lower than you would expect if you were riding outside, but that's reasonable.  It is certainly easy to set up, and the downloads of the files to Power Agent is straight forward.  Of course YMMV!
