Taking Time off Now... Racing Abu Dhabi (march) and IMCDA... OS Help

Going off the forum for a month. Spend more quality time with my daughter and justify a raise at work. With that said, I know that October is the normal start month for IMCDA. OS then roll into the Plan.

The wrench is Abu Dhabi (March 12th). The race is more of a vacatin/fun thing, but the bike course is 120miles. Run is easy at 20k. Any idea on how to structure for Abu Dhabi? Few longer rides in the OS?

Thoughts? My guess is OS + a few long rides. While building swim back in January.

  • That's 120 miles, not kilometers, right? And you're going halfway around the world, and treating it as vacation/fun activity, not an A race? I think you have to approach it as an event, not a competition. Don't mess up your OS by overloading on long rides at the expense of building bike speed/strength. two 5-6 hour rides in Feb ought to be enough. Have fun, wear sunscreen. And be sure to report back!

  • The ride is actually 200km. The rub is unfortunately to just have fun on the ride. 98% positive February rides will be indoors on the trainer.

Ooops - forgot to actually write something!

Mental sanity trumps the need to get in the long ride. I know several people who do IMs training exclusively on a CompuTrainer, 4 hours max, mostly 2 hours or less.

  • If you have the ability to "get away" for a 2-3 day longer bike weekend (think cheap flight to FL or somewhere warm) do that. If not, riding the OS workouts but extending Saturdays with .85 work incrementally until you can sit on 4 hours for a few sessions will be good enough. If you get really worried that close we can always simulate a big bike weekend on the CT, but that would be mentally tough!
  • Any suggestion on a specific time frame?
