2011 IM Selection - LP or Canada?

New EN member, joined just before IM Louisville and finished the race thanks to some last minute advice from Nemo on sweat test and hyration, really was useful for that race.  Looking at 2011 and having survived my first IM want to really try and race the next one.  The 2 races that fit into my calendar are LP and Canada.  I don't want to have to deal with serious heat and have not been a strong runner, but am looking for a race that is a step up from Louisville with a great race atmosphere. Since I will need to use community slots ($$) to register looking for some feedback on both of these races compared to Louisville in terms of degree of difficulty and race atmosphere/fun factor.  This next year will be my first training EN style.

  • Nick, where to you live?

  • I'd go with LP as we have a serious EN contingent up there each year; they are both equally pretty and remote (perhaps IMC wins the latter one there), and both are hilly!!!
  • LP harder than KY, if you are askin' me, also logistically $$difficult to get to LP, expensive lodging and everything else but yes worth it for the olympic, quaintness of the city and good spectator support and yes good EN support out there too. Haven't done Canada but normally less EN members are doing that one and coaches not at that one (since KY is same day) so with the team dinner, and 4 keys talk and etc,you get more of a bang for your buck at LP. my two cents. m
  • Both IM Can and LP will be a huge difference in community support, but I'd have to give the edge to Canada there. Both courses are difficult. Canada weather can be erratic but has potential on average to be warmer than LP. EN coach support at LP is enough to favor Lake Placid given this is your second IM. Go with IMLP.

  • I have done LP 7x and grew up in the area. You can't go wrong with LP!
  • IMLP- 'cause there's gonna be a bunch of EN Chicas there volunteering and supporting you on race day- and then registering for 2012 :-)
  •  Good info.    I couldn't help but click on this thread.    I'm doing both this year, so I guess I'll find out how LP is.   Sounds like great support !   Did IM Canada in 2009 and it was an awesome race - can't wait to get back there too !
