Syracuse - Meet Up

IIRC there will be a pretty good contingent of us there next weekend.  Wondering if anyone is interested in meeting up the afternoon/evening before.  I am driving out Saturday afternoon with a newbie tri friend.  Had thought about going to the Cuse v Maine Football that night but think it may be a tad later than I want to be out.

Any suggestions for a where and when?

  •  I'm all for it, but have no idea where to go.  I'll ask a friend who live there, maybe he'll have some suggestions.

  • i will be trekking up early Sat am, leaving Bucks County with wife around 6am so should be in 'Cuse by noon - always been paranoid abt getting to packet pickup ontime since debacle 10 yrs ago; drove over 2 hrs in killer rainstorm after a century ride in MD (Seagull Century) to DC, had shut down roads so didn't get to Army 10miler packet pickup until 20 minutes after it closed; needless to say, it being the Army, they wouldn't give me my chip even after I begged and pleaded. So been gun shy ever since. Planning on doing some recon Sat afternoon and relaxing with wife. Def planning on hitting up Dinosaur BBQ AND/OR Heigs hotdogs on Sunday after the race. Maybe even Monday too. image Staying at the Maplewood Inn in Liverpool. Wherever the heck that is. image
  •  I will likely not arrive 6 hours early for packet pickup but sometime mid afternoon. Certainly wanna drive the bike course.  Staying at a marriot somewhere by the University, forget exactly where.

Dinosaur BBQ is pretty over rated, more for the non spandex wearing biker set, also, turns out they do not actually BBQ any dinosaurs, just chickens, pigs, cows, that sort of stuff...totally false advertising

  •  I didn't want to say it... but it is overrated and the wait will be terrible.  But, not to be negative, we should find something.  I'll ask around, I have a friend who used to live there and was a social bug so he'll know something.  Hope to see you all there!

  •  I have been to this place which was pretty good and it right in armory square

Colemans is a classic as well but could be filled with the heavy drinking set as there is a football game next saturday night.

  •  I've only been to Colemans, decent place.  Pastabilities looks good too.  Up for anything though.  I put the feelers out, I'll get back soon (I know, I've said this before, but my contact was on the road and couldn't talk....)

  •  My plan is to hit the Cuse area in the early afternoon.  I will be with an old friend who is racing his first half.  My cell is 518-527-5338.  If anyone is interested I will gladly meet up somewhere.  I will certainly be using the trademarked 3 4 a PB protocol.

  •  I'll be there late afternoon saturday, I'm meeting up with friend too, so if we hit something good, I'll call you.

I posted this somewhere, can't find it though from a friend who used to live there....

Here are my top recommendations for Syracuse places to eat. I had to go back and look a bit, but I can vouch for any one of these

    1)     Angotti's Family Restaurant (725 Burnet Avenue): Excellent Italian, Sicilian style, family run, affordable.

    2)     Zebb's Deluxe Grill & Bar (2803 Brewerton Road, Mattydale): Killer burgers.

    3)     Dinosaur Barbecue 246 W. Willow street (it’s worth the wait and they usually get you in and out of there) They are used to being packed. I would go there in a heartbeat.

    4)     Pascale’s Wine Bar and Restaurant (204 West Fayette Street): Incredible food, steaks, seafood, wine, a little more upscale, but worth the price. It’s one of the best restaurants in Syracuse. It’s a great place to celebrate.

    5)     Clark’s Ale House: They make unbelievable roast beef sandwiches and have excellent microbrew on tap.

    6)     Ichiban: 302 Old Liverpool Road, Liverpool, NY: it’s a killer Japanese style restaurant where they cook in front of you. A lot of fun and excellent food.

  •  You pick and tell me when.  Where are the other 8 or so that are racing?

  •  No sweat.  Talk to you Saturday.  I'll be available at 607-644-5651 on Saturday...
