Ironman Canada?

Greetings!

I see in a lot of EN marketing that you are at every race in North America. In poking around I don't see much dialogue around IMC, nor did I happen to notice you guys at the race this year. Were you there? Will you be there in 2011?

Also, the thread for IMC didn’t have any recent posts, just a summary of results from a few racers. Is this typical or is IMC just not as popular with EN? Trying to get a feel for how many like minded peeps/support will be there with me in 2011.

Thanks!

  • Rich and Patrick attend all the US based IMs. So no IMC. 13 EN members raced. Details here:

  • Hi Jenn,

Excellent question. With two coaches putting on 3x 4 day free camps and going to 7 races, soon to be 8 with IMTX, we have to draw a line somewhere on race appearances. That line is the US border image.

However, you can see our IMCA crew here: http://www.endurancenation.us/blog/2010/09/06/ironman-canada-results-and-testimonials/

Admittedly, we could have done a better job of asking one of these people to step up as a Race Captain and help them organize a team dinner, etc for the other EN athletes racing. We've done that in the past but dropped the ball on that this year.

We expect the team to be bigger next year = more people at every race and more resources for PnI to make stuff like this happen.
  • I will be there with you this year Jenn!

Was there last year and had a great time and looking forward to training smarter and killing it next year.

If we can get a lot more people, it would be great to have the team training environment.

  • Hi Jenn, I just raced IMCA this past year and while it was "across the border", I had a lot of support from the team via the forums. You also probably didn't see many of us cause we covered up our singlets with the cold temps! I personally followed the Women's, Race Reports and IMCA forums regularly and every once in a while, poked my head into others (i.e. nutrition, gearing). I also went to the Lake Placid training camp (free) where I met some other EN members. I found a TON of support in those forums and camp that met all of my needs...race specific questions were answered by the Canada veterans, fellow female support is overflowing in the Women's forum, nutritionists on the team helped me deal with my major nutrition issues, Rich gave suggestions about gearing for the Canada course and the race reports helped me with my mental preparation. FYI, there's another member Kris who is also racing IMC in '11. What a fabulous race you have chosen!
  • Hi Jenn,
I live in Seattle and am signed up for IMC 2011 along with about 15 friends. We've usually gone up to Penticton to do our own training camp around the first week in August. I've done IMC 4 ttimes. You'd be welcome to join us for that in 2011 if it works out for you.
  • I think we'll have 15-20 folks. Tell Rich he can ride his moto there and maybe he'll do it. image
  • Well yea, Yea and YEA!!! Glad there will be some folks there. Do I just keep an eye out for a thread to post and then just chime in? Don't see one yet. Of course we're 11 months out.... Thanks guys!
  • Jenn-
Rumors are correct.. I am signed up for IMCA 2011. I look forward to having some EN Chicka company there!

  • Jenn,

I saw folders in some of the sections for various races and am assuming that once we hit a certain point the IMC 2010 folder will be replaced by the IMC 2011 folder, anyone have insight on that?

;Lance, are the people that hit up your training camp all from Seattle or are there some out of towners, very interested if there are some openings as this year I'd like to train there before racing, unlike this year.

  • I'll be there folks....look forward to training with ya next year !

  • Jenn - Doing my first IM at Canada - You enjoying our lovely weather? Went to track this week which was mostly underwater....
  • Holy Hella Pouring A@@ Rain, Batman!  No doubt!

We managed to hit our track on a brief dry window this morning... totally lucky.  In general, though I never thought I'd be so in love with my trainer!   Last year at IMC was my first as well.  I thought I was supposed to do all my training outside and you may recall it was kind of a pissy spring/summer so I got wet A LOT.  Now with the EN training plans I'm going to stay on the trainer a lot more.  Unless the sun happens to come out, of course.

I think you'll be pleased with IMC!  From what I've seen/heard about other races it sounds like you'll be spoiled right off the bat.  From what I can tell it's the only course with a single loop of everything except for Kona. And, of course it's BEAUTIFUL!   And EPIC!   And TOTALLY AWESOME!

We swim in the summers at Madison on Friday mornings.  Hit me up if you're interested in May/June!

    Happy Training (Splashing!)

  • You know you're from the Pac NW when you get happy just seeing the sun for two hours a WEEK! (Get any hail last night?)

  • Totally.  No hail, but enough rain to wake the hubby who is literally 80% deaf!

And high five to the now "officially" Mr. Wicked Smart Member!    As if you needed a title to validate your awesomeness.
