New Iron Man Swim Wear Rule

Has anyone read this new rule concerning swim wear www.ironman.com

I will be competing in IM Cozumel in November and was going to wear my 2XU speed suit over my shorts and top for the swim . My suit is 80% Nylon 20%Elastane , side panel is 85%Neoprene15%Nylon .

It is the Neoprene side panel I am worried about , does any one know how strict they are going to be about this new rule which will be enforced from this month ?

  • I have no clue how/if they will enforce this rule. My guess is that (like many rules) it will be enforced for the pointy end of the field much more strictly then the rest of the field. Most people will just follow the rule on their own and unless someone is going for a Kona slot/AG placing I doubt they will pay much attention. Even then, my guess is they will relay on other people reporting the person that podiumed in an illegal suit. Again, total speculation.

Technically, since your suit has Neoprene I believe it is illegal. It is also illegal if it goes over you neck, knees or shoulders. I think the neck/knee/shoulder rule will be easier to enforce.
  • This slowtwitch article shows legal examples from De Soto, Blue Seventy and Tyr
