WTC starts their own online training community

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, or if it was discussed already as I'm 12 pages behind on unread EN posts, but WTC and Ford have started their own online training community:

I don't have time to sign up, but am currious what they are going to offer.

The Most Rewarding Endurance Community Online

The Ford Training Team is the newest online community for Ironman triathletes. It's a place where people can share stories, photos and videos on training for an Ironman race.

FordTrainingTeam.com is loaded with tips and videos from the pros on topics including conditioning and nutrition to help make the world's most challenging endurance event a little less daunting.

Ford is a proud partner of Ironman and continues to lead the way with innovative, technologically advanced vehicles like the 41mpg Ford Fusion Hybrid and the all-new Ford Edge with MyFordTouch, debuts later this summer.

Join the team today at FordTrainingTeam.com and let the adventure begin.

  • Makes me want to buy a Ford.
  • I signed up just to see what it was about. Saw ZERO tips from pros and ZERO videos. Looks like the site is set up so you can load your training for comparison and challenges. The forum was very basic...the questions were all something you would expect to see on Beginner Triathlete.com, not on a forum for "experienced Ironman Triathletes." Now, as punishment for looking, I expect to be inundated with offers from Ford and 2,000 partner companies.
  • hmm... now it's even more clear why they're so anti-EN at race expos. Interesting.
  • PnI look at this a while ago when it first came out. To me, it looks completely like something WTC sold to Ford to say they could get a ton of athlete eyeballs onto a site surrounded by Ford stuff. But they are about 2-3yrs too late, with IAMTri likely having beaten them to the game.

You can see that some big name pro's, and WTC-sponsoring coaches like Troy Jacobsen are in there as well, so likely some package deal of WTC + athletes doing the bidding of their sponsors + WTC aligned coaching companies + Ford.

And it's a completely different gig from what we do here at EN.

  • Sorry Paul... I'm glad I didn't have the time to look into it as I already get enough crap mail from WTC and their partners and don't need anymore.
  • yeah, total marketing. for the first few days, the link was bad and just went to ford.com. image
