Plan Purchase

I am obviously new to EN and wondering if I should purchase the 70.3 plan prior to trial time expiring?  I have a HIM in mid Nov and have really struggled this year training because I was following the long and slow approach.  I was continually frustrated because my life circumstances don't allow for 15 - 20 hr training weeks but that was what I was "suppose" to do to get faster.  I have been doing tris for 9+ years with 2 IM and 8-10 HIM.  I am in my mid 40s with family responsibilties but still want to go faster (PR 5:18 HIM).

Feel like I will sign on for the monthly plan after the trial period is up but wondering if I should go ahead and start the plan now.  I assume the race plan is noticeably different for the OS plan?

Anyway, thanks for any suggestions.

  • Joe- if you are going to join, no need to puchase a plan. Once you are set up, you will be able to go into training plan and set your plan. You could do a 12 week HIM plan and it will be available to see as a quick reference on Dashboard and more detailed under my training. Welcome aboard

  • Short answer:

    • If you plan to join the team there is no reason to purchase any of our plans first.
    • We've received many emails from folks who are ready to join now, ending their trial and gaining access to everything so they can get the head start you described. We are hooking up that process right now and, soon, we'll be able to point you to a page where you click a button and, poof, everything works.

It's on the bench and we're banging on it. It will be ready soon.

  • Joe, we'd start you in the OutSeason first, then build you up to the HIM plan and more. You can see a full discussion of our seasonal phases in our online training manual here: http://www.endurancenation.us/book/manual/lctm.php

Once you are a member, you get access to all our plans, all the time, no need to buy!

  • The plans for a given race are 12 weeks long. The 20 week plans are the same except they have an 8 week "general prep" part thrown on the front. If you become a member now, you're looking at about $200 between now and mid-November, which is only a few tens of dollars more than the price of the plan itself.

My advice is 100% clear for your case, assuming you're planning to use one of these training plans.

No question. Become a paid member today. Don't wait for the trial to end, because you're just burning 10 more days of not having the plan. Plus, there will be a lot of people joining right when the trial is done, so it might take a few extra days for RnP to get you all set up. So do it now and be ready to start up in the middle of your plan next Monday. If you like it, stay on through the winter. If not, you haven't spent more than about $20 extra!

  • I think Patrick misreads your query, thinking your race is NEXT November, rather than 8-10 weeks from now. (Either that or I do!) My answer was written thinking you were racing in a couple of months.

PS I'm the same guy as you. Joined mid April 2010 46 years old, family, the whole shebang. PR at HIM was similar to yours. Big PR for me in July. I found the plan to be excellent.

Thanks for the information and recommendation.  Glad to know someone coming from the same place.  I have really been struggling with the long and slow and after poking around the site the EN approach looks like exactly what I am looking for.

You are right that my race is November this year at Beach 2 Battleship in Wilmington, NC.  Looks like from Rich's post that I should be able to join shortly which I plan to do.

    Thanks again!!

  • Hey Good Luck!

(and don't worry if the first couple of weeks on the new plan feel pretty rough, particularly the weekend rides. They may be different enough from what you're doing that they may. But as long as the total load isnt too different, you'll adjust in plenty of time and be better off for it.)
  • I am also keen to jump in as a paid member and skip the trial membership. I am not doing my Ironman until March 2011 (New Zealand). Its the end of winter here and I have seriously lost my mojo from trying to keep the 12-15hrs a week up all winter, for the 5th winter in a row. Chucked the toys out the cot about 6 weeks ago and have had trouble getting going again - always feel guilty that I am not doing enough, which brings on the mild (well not so mild) panic that November will roll around really quick and I wont have done enough in the OS. So keep banging on that bench

  • @Joe, @Gillian, up in your navbar at the top of the page you should see a button called My Account. Mouse over that and use the Join option to end your trial and start your membership right away. Thanks and welcome aboard!
