My 2011 Season Plan - Feedback Please
Here's the first draft of my 2011 season plan. Let me know what you think. I want to transition from a 20 week OS into a HIM build. I'm planning a 4 day Big Bike Week in late April. I will probably cover 350-400 miles total. Should I try to throw in another big block early in my IM build, say at the IMWI camp?

I would play the IMWI camp by ear and see how your body is doing. Most people did not do it as a big block. If your fatigue levels are good, go for it, if not skip it. I did mine the week prior when I did IMWI last year and it worked well.
For what it's worth, I am also doing Wisconsin and planning on racing a half in June (on the 12th or 13th, depending on which one), with a Nov 1 OS entry. (Some of the other details vary because of local race timing.) I am also looking at the Nov 1 start for OS. (Still figuring out some details...see here) This makes sense to me in that it doesn't extend the long stuff ridiculously and accommodates winter weather pretty well.
Sounds good. I'll definitely play it by ear, based on fatigue levels, once I start IM race prep. What does the Big Day consist of? We didn't have those last year.
Looking forward to training (and racing) with you guys!
Timing on BBWs looks good. Might want to consider making the week before your June / July outing a run / swim focus, if only to mix 'er up. I think the key point around that time, going forward to September, is to continue to find a way to keep it interesting.
Thanks for the feedback!
P, Good call on the extra week of transition after the HIM. I have to remind myself that I will be carrying over a lot of fitness from the HIM build. I will go for a BBW in early July to coincide with the Tri Rally. Should set me up nicely for the IM training.
Dave, Fitness monster is exactly what I'm going for. Ha! You are right about the amount of race prep being a lot. I really need to make the most of the transitions and also look for opportunities to keep it interesting. I like the swim/run focus idea before the BBW and the IM build. I think I will do many of my ABP rides with the local roadies. I'm also hoping to do some riding with Jim H and Mancona to keep it REAL.
Kitima, There will be epic eating.
Have you thought about adding a HIM other than High Cliff a little closer to IMWI. (IMO - High Cliff is nothing special)
Say Racine or Door County - they are the same week. If you are going to do a Wisconsin HIM, I would put Door Cty as a must do event. It's far enough out and it's such a great race in every aspect. It's my favorite long course race. The water is crystal clear, the bike course is awesome with great road conditions, the run is tough in some parts but has great spectator opportunities/support. The post race meal, entertainment (live music), and awards are great. It's an awesome area to spend some days either on the front/back end of the race. The field is limited to 1000. Its a ton of fun!!
Door County is also on my To Do list. I've done Racine. The timing of High Cliff is why I'm choosing it. It gives me more of a split season. I'd rather do a half earlier so I can have plenty of time to recover and then focus on IM specific training. This schedule gives me 10 solid weeks of that leading up to IMWI.
