timberman housing

I've signed up for Timberman, does anyone have any recommendations for lodging up there?  I won't do an extended stay, maybe 2 nights at most, just wondering if anyone has had luck with a nice place.  Thanks.

  • I'm seriously considering registering as well. So I'll be following this thread :-) Anyone know how fast Timberman generally fills? Eagleman is probably already sold out (CRAZY) but I don't want to register for the race until I've really figured out my season next year.
  • I'm thinking of Timberman as well for my "A" race next year.
  • Last year Timberman was open through at least late October (because that's when my BF registered).  Despite the bad weather for me on the bike I thought it was a great race.  Fun course, very well supported by the community.

There are several B&Bs in Gilford that are super cute and very close by - if you google or yelp it you should be able to find something near the park.  When researching for this, I discovered that many of the rental house options in Gilford had minimum stay requirements of 5 days to a week... which didn't work for me.

Tilden (I think...) isn't very far and has more chain hotel options but might be a bit of a pain as far as logistics go - since you have to rack your bike, go to the athletes meeting, etc... not to mention parking race day is very difficult (lines to get into the park started in the 4-4:30ish range) - the fall back was to park at the location of the expo and take a bus (it's about 3 miles away).  We got super lucky in that the B&B we stayed at was on the road of the run course and we could take back roads essentially into the parking lot of the park the morning of the race... I'll find the name of the place and let you know... there were a few others right next to it, too...

  •  @Becky: exactly what I'm looking for!!! Thanks

  • You used to have a lot of time to register for Timber, but now that it's 70.3...I forget when it sold out. Definitely planning to do this in '11. Love this race! image
  • p.s. tilton is the closest big town, though concord is also relatively close by if you're looking for big chain motels. Personally- I'd look into snagging a place close to gunstock (local ski resort). Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay closer come race morning. The town is Gilford, NH and there are a few motels right there near the base of the mountain. the race start is 15 min away versus 30 min and a LONG ASS LINE OF TRAFFIC to deal for parking.
  • Tilton... I was close... and yes, Concord is also close - we stopped at local chain for dinner one night and it was great (found it on yelp)... but I digress.

The name of the place we stayed at was the Inn at Smith Cove. -- little house with maybe 6-10 rooms, 3-4 miles away.  Coffee and pastries set up in the mornings.  A fridge on the back porch.  All racers there so fairly quiet.  On the run course, so super super convenient... as I mentioned we were able to take back roads to sneak in to the parking lot for the race morning (granted, we were still in our car at 4:30am...)...but got primo parking and then just chilled in the car til the start.  I think there were a few other places on the cul-d-sac where it was and a restaurant, too... but we didn't eat there.

  •  Nemo- Eagleman has not posted the race is closed yet. I may grab a spot as B/C race and Timberman as my A

Thanks for this info on lodging, will follow as well

  • I have stayed in Tilton at like a Motel 6 or something. Good enough for sure. Key with Timberman is there is only one way in on race morning. You need to plan on being there before 5am to get parking, etc....so factor that in. Pre 70.3 days it was a great race, expect it to remain fun and fast (and hot!).
