Mac Computer Software for training with Power

I just got my first powermeter, a Quarq with a Garmin 500.  The wiki is pushing WKO+ for training software, but I was wondering if anybody else here has a positive experience with something else.  I guess it should be EN friendly, too, since I'm still very much in the beginning stages of understanding.  Seems that the terminology can be different depending on the program.

I use a Mac, and have Parallels, but I'm not really excited about using it if there is another option out there.  The only Mac native programs I've found are Raceday and Golden Cheetah, and I haven't been able to find any good reviews or feedback from searching forums.

Suggestions? (even if it is WKO)  Does anybody else use this setup?

  • tons of mac users here. A lot run parallells successfully and run WKO. Yes there is other software too, race day comes to mind. WKO is the common language we "speak" in the haus.
  • I use VMWare Fusion to run WKO. It was an exercise in patience to get everything set up properly, but it behaves quite well now, most of the time.

  • I'm a Mac user and unfortunately I just find it easier to run a bunch of my sports software on an old PC laptop. I've got Parallels, but some of the software was still glitchy so I've loaded the Garmin, WKO+, CompuTrainer, Erg+ and ErgVideo programs onto the laptop. Not ideal, but everything talks to each other and it works hassle free.
  •  I do not have a Mac, but I do own both raceday and wko, if you understand the wko lingo, you'll get the raceday lingo as well.  Plus, there is a training with power book by the owner of raceday, Dr. Phil Skiba, that explains the program and has awesome insight on proper training that is well worth the read.  It is easy to understand, and much shorter than most texts out there but with more useful information.  there are benefits to both programs, I can't say I like one more than the other.  The graphs in raceday are more telling to me than wko, but wko shows more complete data that isn't all completely necessary, but very nice to have.

  • I use VMware with success. Another option might be to just get a little netbook pretty reasonably, but really, the VMware works.
  •  Thanks for the replies.  I spent a couple hours today setting up the trial WKO with parallels.  It's working well, so I'll stick with that.  It was a little rough getting my old data files loaded (polar), so I just moved the key races and test results from the end of my last season.  Don't really see the point in moving 3 years of .hrm's.  The data is pretty manageable and not too hard to understand, so I'll probably keep using it.  If its working for the majority, I don't want to reinvent the wheel.
