Scheduling a Half Iron during IM training

I know its far out but need to sign up soon for a Half Iron if I am going to do it so here is the question.

I am hoping to do IMAZ next year and looking at the schedule of 20 weeks of training I could do Timberman Half which is August 21st and is week 7 of the IM training or I could do Pumkinman Half which is Sept 11th and in week 10 of IM training which would be best to do if any.

Thanks

  • Well, since I'm doing Timberman, I think you should do Timberman of course! :-) Lets see, uh, it's 13 weeks before the race so you could train for it (use the HIM training plans) really race it hard, and then take a week off to recover, and then start the 12 week training prep in full force. Vs Pumpkinman which will be in the middle of that 12 week prep and sorta messy. Yeah, that's it, that's my story and I'm sticking with it! :-)

Seriously- either would probably work, but I'm kinda hoping you'll choose Timberman 'cause I'd love the chance to race along side you!
  • Nemo, I would load you up with food so you would not have a great race, you like whoopie pies and granola. How about some choc chip cheesecake?

I was thinking of Timber for the same reason but my friend was looking at Pumkin so I said we will let the EXPERTS  help us decide

  • I say Timber so you can connect with EN peeps and enjoy you race and see how your fitness compares. Then bundle up for IMAZ training baby!
  • I second Nemo's advice.

EDIT: I went from 20 week Jan OS, to 10 days of whatever I wanted, to 2 weeks of horrible vacation. Returned Wednesday and did Patriot HIM on Saturday and started 12 week IM program 2 days later, sort of. But I was still more than ready for IMMooo.

  • I guess it is settled, I will be signing up for Timberman. Nemo be prepared

  • I did the Syracuse 70.3 a couple of weeks ago and have IMFL on Nov 6th.

I'm doing the Texas 70.3 six weeks before IMTX.

I think it's good race prep and you gain some good fitness from doing a 70.3.
