what is data tools about

well, i was looking at Data Tools; here is what I have seen; I do a run, just say 4 miles at a 9 min / mile pace.  it sounds like I can enter this into the DT area, but the other values are they computed?

maybe this should start with what DT is all about.  thanks.

  • The data tool is designed as a place to store test results and have it compute zones based upon those results. I typically only use it for the run zones. For bike power, I know my functional threshold and most intervals are just percentages of that number, so that if your FT is "X", it's pretty easy to calculate 110%, 90%, 85% and 80% of that number and stick the results on your bike. Running zones are based upon the Daniels formula which you can find all over the web too.

It's also great way to hold EN and yourself accountable. By looking at past results, you can see very quickly if you are progressing over time.
  • And you are entering information into the data tool generally only when you are testing, since you don't want to be entering your JRA pace for your Thursday long run. I know some people use longer test data (i.e. a half marathon race time vs. the 5K time trial) based on their personal experiences, but I'd try out the 5k first.
  • MM - generally it's for actual tests (5k run, for example), not just for any workout. Once you enter your test data the DT will spit out zones you can use for your training and racing!
  • I can't access the Data Tool, and when I request my password it doesn't even recognize my email as having an account.  How do I access the Data tool?  Thanks

  • Jason,

There is an issues that has been causing log in issues for new members.  In any event check out this thread in the administration section as I'm not sure Patrick will see this post:
