Week #1 Bike Thread

Bike testing commences in 48 hours! I've got a hard day at work on Monday so I'm going to have to get up early to crank it out. Gonna put the trainer tire on and load up the bike today so I can roll out of bed and climb on at 5AM on Monday. Post-up your test results and tales of pain here!

  • and so it begins! For all newbies, watch the pacing. what seems manageable 10 minutes in is usually unbearable at 35 minutes!
  •  HERE WE GO!  Actually, I started a couple weeks ago.  I'm going to be taking off a couple weeks before/after Marine Corps Marathon, so I'm already on week three.  I'll get back in line in November.  Anyway, my first ever FTP test had me at 233.  Hopefully I can look back at this post in 5 months and be proud of a significantly higher number.  Good Luck everybody. 

  • Decided to go ahead and do it today (Sunday) since work is looking even bleaker tomorrow. Down a bit from a month ago after 2-weeks off, but I forced myself to stay down in the aerobars for most of it. No where to go from here but up! Did manage to hold things pretty steady with a NP of 209 for the first 20-minutes and 207 for the second 20-minutes. HR held at 159 for the second interval which is about what my bike LTHR usually is. Cadence was a little slow for what I normally pedal.

  • I'm joining the two of you in the morning...I have the bike set up on the trainer in the basement ready to go. I'll do my O/S traning on my road bike not the TT. I suspect this will result in some adaptation needed when I do switch back in the spring but it is so much nicer in the winter to be on the road bike.
