Recent Powermeter purchase/ CompuTrainer

Hi Everyone, I finally purchased a powermeter, and am excited to learn/use it this winter.  I own a CompuTrainer as well, and was wondering which one to use during OS training.  My thoughts are to use PM for TT test to get my baseline and do most of my rides with the PM (on a trainer) so I get solid knowledge and experience before the season starts, and maybe occasional CT use for changing things up a bit if I get bored with just PM.  I prob. want to compare how I measure FTP using PM vs. CT, so I can adjust goal wattage accordingly.  Appreciate your thoughts if you own both CT and PM.

  • Congrats on the new toy! I would always use data from the PM, whether you are on a trainer, CT or outside. Using the CT can still be fun with pre-written courses, but ride with both and just save data from the PM and delete the CT data when done. You can compare power between the PM and CT but it will just drive you crazy after a while, so give up before you start! PM all the way. Have fun.
  • Congrats on the PM Yasko - lots of info in the forums about how to integrate the PM with the CT.
  • Six of one half dozen of the other situation if you ask me re CT or PT indoors. We test regularly, so I test on the CT in the winter and just use that FT. Then when I take it outside, I test on the PT and am set in that situation. FT is FT--so long as you test and stay current. Just because a number registers differently (let's say lower inside), I justy see that as the "indoor" number. Same effort, same hard work. Personally, if it's a choice of riding the CT and using "indoor" numbers vs. the riding on a regular trainer to use the PT there is NO real choice for me--CT all the way. I want to shoot myself on a regular trainer, whereas I'm happy as a clam on the CT--where I sit for months on end here in NE!

I just discovered some info about a little screw on the CT that you can turn to match the watts to the PT--I'll dig it up and post it to see what y'all think.
