support group for SOs
not sure if you could do it... but seeing that you have the ability for trial members to log on and have limited access made me wonder... if we could have a forum for our non-EN significant others. They can't see other stuff and potentially we can't see their forum...
Don't know if there's interest but I know that my BF is gettng a little tired of all this stuff (not helped by the fact that I signed up for IMFL and have had a very long season)...but I'm also in my first year of EN and he doesn't get it (despite being a triathlete - OLYs mostly)... he is definitely convinced I've blindly drunk the kool-aid, etc and he's certainly over my super long training sessions... the ladies and I have joked about our non-long-course SOs not getting it, trying to be supportive, but being annoyed all the same... thought it might be nice to have this for them (if they'd use it) so they can see what this is all about (some of them know already as they're spouses to veteran EN members), vent to each other, discuss what they're going through, etc... not to mention then they'd get to know each other a bit, too... so when they're standing around for hours and hours and hours at races they will have already met/bonded with these folks the way we have.
Just a thought as I don't think the SAUS I earned in Dec-Mar mean much right now... and Dan and I are both driving each other crazy... and we're both right, as it were...

We can make that handbook! The EN Guide to SAUs and dating/being married to an Endurance Athlete.
You can tell Dan I'll buy him beers at IMWI.
This is an AWESOME idea and we'll pay for any production costs to make it purdy, etc. Just let us know!
Becky -- I will let you start the thread.
Number One item from me? Never, ever tell your non-triathlete/cyclist boyfriend how much you just paid for your powermeter. They will not understand.
Funny Beth! I agree. Once at work I was getting on the breezer to ride home and one of the girls I work with asked if that was the bike I do my "triathlene" things on. I told her no that there are TRIATHLON bikes that you can buy. She said, "Wow, they must be expensive. What do they cost? Like $200? " I just said, "A little more than that, but yeah they are expensive." Not worth confirming to my co-workers that I am in fact crazy!
I've started to develop lines for things -- or just smiling and nodding.
Q: In gas station parking lot from stranger. "How much did you bike cost? Like $2k?" -- A: "I'm not sure. It was a gift." (You know, from my money-earning self to my triathlete self.)
Q: At work/ "How much do you eat? You must get to eat whatever you want!" (Insert story about their friend who trained for the marathon and ate McDonald's quarter pounders every day.) - A. "Yes, I get to eat whatever I want." (Thinking about how whatever I want has become a lot of salad, fruit, and fish.)
Q: "Do you wear the funny shoes, like they use in spinning class? How do you not fall off your bike?" - A. "Yes. And you do."
And so forth!
