  • Check out the new site at www.5150.com. Note that the series logo is 5i50 not 5150. Does that mean a 5i50 is possibly a 'little ironman'? image Maybe if it takes off we'll see folks on the OLY circuit proudly sporting an I dot tattoo! That ought to generate some controversy.
  • @Paul - I forget which other web site I saw that was pointing that out...maybe ST's article? Can't remember. But anyway, you're right - the number and web site are 5150, but they clearly want to keep "the dot" in the logo.

@Mike - It may be that the huge expansion of IronKids is ONLY those midwest ones. I am not sure. I have since learned that those are the ones that HyVee is co-sponsoring and they are all in places where there are HyVee grocery stores. i don't know what arrangements they may have with other locations. HyVee headquarters is in Iowa, and my local club has a couple "insiders" there, and floated me that list.

Looks like they are trying to take out the Lifetime Fitness/Toyota Cup Series with this one.  They don't have all of the major Olypmic races but a quite a few of the well established ones and now they have a championship with cash.

They now have the qualification info up and also have price money for AG and Open Amateur:

For the US Championship (Hy-Vee in Iowa) Open Amateur Category:

    • 1st Place: Ford Vehicle + $5,150 in product/prizes

    • 2nd Place: $4,000 in product/prizes

    • 3rd Place: $3,000 in product/prizes

    • 4th Place: $2,000 in product/prizes

    • 5th Place: $1,000 in product/prizes

It's going to be interesting to see what this does to USAT nationals and worlds...

  • Lifetime Fitness/Toyota Cup Series has bigger purses (in the hundreds of thousands of $$) than this does. But sponsors love the WTC-branded events more.

A not-so-easy balance for some pros, for sure.
  • Hy Vee has been such a big money event in the past, there must be bigger cash for a pro race or something
  • @Scott - is the Lifetime purse bigger for Amateurs also? A Car + $5150 is huge for non-pro price money in my opinion?
  • When this list came out I was actually surprised that Chicago wasn't included since they've pretty much been looking for a major sponsor since Accenture dropped out. I see that they are part of the Toyota Cup, but really don't remember that being a heavy promotion for last year's race. Figured they'd try to drop them to jump on the WTC bandwagon.
  • @Jennifer - Lifetime bought Chicago earlier this year and became the title sponsor. So to me it makes sense that the Lifetime events are not on this.
