Links should open new window

When I click on a link it takes me there.  Would be better if the link opened in a new window so that you could "stay" in the forum rather than having to back track to get back into it.

  • Chris - are you using a brower with multiple tab capability?  I tend to open the discussions in multiple tabs so that I don't lose my place in the forum.

Is this the functionality that you are refering to or have I misunderstood?

  • I'm with Chris. I don't think you should have to righ-click to tell it where to open.
Any clicked weblink should take you to another whole new window AUTOMAGICALLY.
  • On a Mac, if you ?-click (Command-click) a link with Safari or Firefox, it will open in a new tab. There's a tabs section in Safari preferences
  • Let's be specific here... Are we talking only about links within Forum posts? For example, most of the links on the Dashboard I typically want to open in the same window, same tab.

A second dimension, are we talking about internal links (like to another forum post or to a page in the wiki), external links (like an article in a magazine), or both? For external links, I pretty much always want them in another tab. For internal links I could go either way.

My personal preference is to NEVER have a new window, but instead to have a new tab in my existing browser window.

  • For me, anything (external or internal) linked in a forum post should open a new window, not a tab.

    I'm a PC/IE guy.
  • Aren't those options that one chooses via the Tools/Options of a browser?

I believe that Firefox allows me to choose a new tab or a new window when opening links.
  • @Al, you'd think so, wouldn't you?!?

IE7, tools-->internet options-->general-->tabs-->settings-->"open links from other programs in" -->"a new tab in existing window" or "a new window".

Either way, the clicked link still doesn't do it.

  • Endurance Nation can't fix your internet. I am sure you have had multiple experiences on different websites. If you don't want to hit "Back" then right click and open in a new window (or tab).
