Giro Advantage 2 w/ Visor

This was discussed in some older threads, but I wanted to let you all know that it is possible to put a visor into a Giro Advantage 2 aero helmet. I googled this before I did it, and found this is what several pro bike teams do, so I tried it.

It's a LG visor/windscreen that fit into my GIro helmet without any cutting/shaping. I did reinforce it, with some screws (exactly like those that come with the wheel cover, except shorter and the only ones I could find ;Home Depot were metal).

I tried to upload pictures here (using the 'attachment' option below when creating the post), but I don't know if it worked or not. If not, please tell me how to load pictures w/o a weblink, as my company blocks all of those weblinks from displaying (I can hardly EVER see the pics most of you post).

Any way, I first used the helmet at Vineman 70.3 in July - and LOVED it!!! No sunglass frames in my vision path, still had plenty of airflow, and less headache-like pain from the ears of the glasses.

  • Hey, that sounds cool. I am really tired of sweating my sunglasses and this looks likes a good alternative. Did you just order it online and do they come tinted?

    Can you see the pics?

Ordered the visor at a LBS. LG has the same shape visor in three shades: clear, grey and really dark (obviously, not the real names). I chose the clear to start, but might get a darker one to swap out for certain events. With the screws I used, it's as simple as using a dime to remove it.

  • I am waiting for my shiny new white Advantage 2 to come in the mail so I might have to try this out. I've never ridden with an aero helmet, but my large noggin usually suffers from sunglass issues.
  • I also see no pictures as I'm on a DOD computer. Too bad for me. Not too long until I'm back to my personal comp and free of the crazy restrictions.
  • The images have been inserted directly now! (sometimes I see where to do it, sometimes I don't!)

  • I love racing with a visor. I feel like I don't need to strain my neck as much to see. I also read somewhere that it is more aero.
  • Nice! I can finally see some pictures with my ridiculously content controlled connection. I'm definitely going to try this out.
