Nantucket Iron Teams Relay

Patrick, not sure this is the right place for this info/question but here goes.  I had put on my race schedule in June 2010 a local race, Nantucket Iron Teams Rely.  There was a question from you guys, the coaches, as to the make up of the race.  Well, its a morphed 6 leg, Olympic Tri with a beach run and a paddle thrown in.  So it looks like this, 2.5 mi street run, then a 1 mile paddle on a lie-down paddle board, a 3 mi beach run, a 900 meter swim, a 20 mi bike and lastly a 6.5 mi run.  As you might imagine, its a ton of fun.

It was initially advised that I do not do this race as it was thought to be a running only race (total completion time of 3:30) and it being to close in recovery from REV 3 HIM in CT.  However, as the defending Masters winner from last year, and the race properly explained, I would like your blessing and coaching to compete in the race.

Thanks, Mike

  •  Mike,

    Are you over on Nantucket?

I live on the Vineyard, year-round. I came over and did the new sprint in July; had a blast.

By the by, isn't the water a tad cold in June on Nantucket? I remember doing a sprint there years ago during June and shivering all the way through the bike.

    all my best,

    Bill

  •  Hey Bill,

Yup, sure is cold, but the swim is pretty short so it's not to bad. Are you doing the sprint again this year?  I missed it last year b/c i was doing the 70.3 in Rhode Island.

    Mike

  • You can absolutely do the race..a good buddy of mine nearly ended up in the hospital a few years back. image I think that falls under the category of "doing cool stuff" so doooo it!
