Bike: Heart Rate Test

 Hey everybody,

I tried searching in the Forums but not sure if I was using the right terms.  I am doing the Heart Rate Test for the bike tomorrow morning and just wanted to confirm the steps that need to happen (so I dont have to retest).  (And yes, I will be buying a powermeter, it's just going to take a few more weeks )

1. Run the 40' TT to get my LTHR.

2. Take note of average speed for that 40'

3. Now that I have this LTHR...do I calculate the zones using the same steps I did for the run, Z1 = (.65 * LTHR) - (.78 * LTHR).

4. And if that is the case, what do I use the average speed for then?

Sorry if it's a silly question but could not find the answer.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Marc

  • One thing I forgot to ask...am I in aero position for the test?
  • Mike, I put all all the info into training-data tool...tests. It calculates the zones for you and saves the test. Not a silly question if you haven't done it before. I do ride in aero but I don't know if it's necessary or not. Have funimage
  • Mike, how'd it go? A JB noted, the data tool does all the heavy lifting for you...you just do the test. Sitting up OR Aero is a function of how you plan do to your actual intervals. I personally sit up b/c I can go harder..and indoors I tend to pant more / need more air. My two cents...
  • @jessica and @patrick - thanks for the quick response image

So I did the test this morning and here are the results:
11.4 miles in 40' for an average speed of 17.1mph and average bpm is 160.

It's my first time on my tri bike in months and i sure felt it. is it normal to feel as if i could have gone harder even though i FELT i went hard.

BTW, i did the test sitting up since it takes my body a while to get used to riding hard in aero.
