Heart Rate question

Hey, quick HR ??  From OS Advanced

I did an hour bike on Tues. without my HR monitor, however i had done the 40min TT with a HR and knew the HR was 168 while i averaged 18.0mph on my trainer.  The Tues bike felt good. Perhaps the 80-85% work (after the 2x8') was done to easy.

Anyways, yesterday (wed.) i did the 1 hour bike then 15 min run.  For the 2x8' (Z4/Z5) effort i couldn't get my HR high. The first 8' I averaged 18.1mph and HR only hit 156 (i avoid averages since it takes a bit for them to climb) and the second 8' i geared up and averaged 19.2mph but my HR still ony hit 165.

What gives? Is my HR not climbing because i was fatigued from day before or am i already showing improvement on my 4th OS bike?

  • It was inside on the trainer as well, same conditions, same time bit after 9pm. Had the fan going both times.. The test for LTHR was from 10/03
  • That was the first hard ride i've done since July pretty much and since then, i've done a few harder rides, including a duathlon (24k course, avg. 21.3mph). maybe i've just rebounded quickly. Last year i did 2:31 bike split at IMLonghorn.

    I wouldn't worry about it. HR can be inconsistent between workouts for a number of reasons. I would just observe it over time and see if you can spot trends.
