THE OFFICAL "pain cave thread"

I offically went on my last outdoor ride for the year today. It was 36 out side and that's too cold for me. I know I'm from Minnesota, but I have been on plenty of character building rides in my life and I dont need any more. I very much dislike putting on the trainer tire. I put mine in the dryer for a few minutes before putting it on and it still is frustrating. oh well...My pain cave is just about done. Pics to come soon... What does everyones cave look like?

Post the pics of your pain cave!!!

  • Mine looks like a junk room with a bike in the middle on the trainer.....Hopefully I'll have time to perk it up this weekend!
  • 36, was that celcius?
  • Nope. It was cold going +30mph down those hills.
  • My pain cave is a tiny spot in the garage surrounded by piles of stuff. As long as I have room to turn the pedals image
  • I live in a beach bungalow with no real basement - my living room becomes my pain cave.

I would rather live in a beach bungalow than have a pain cave....just so you know....

  • I hear you on the cold weather coming in.  We are supposed to get snow next week but we will see if that comes.  As for the character building perhaps I should get our for some more of that but not too likely.

We have a small condo so I get to set up and take down in the kitchen.  Set up and take down is pretty standard unless my wife is travelling for a few days.

I don't have to worry about the trainer tire yet as I have a couple 700's from this season that I can burn through before needing to get one.

No picture for me, I don't know where the camera is.

  • I've taken the good outdoor tire off and replaced with an old tire and have the bike set up on the trainer. Living in Winnipeg, we won't see good biking weather for many more months. Fortunately, I am moving to KC coming up. It'll feel like the tropics in KC compared to Winnipeg. No more -40C/F days. Yeah for me !

  • Yup I have the pain cave ready to go. Here is a picture of mine and I have to say I am so glad it's not in the garage or kitchen. If I had to stare that that I would have to get off and clean!

And Michael, I moved form KC just over a year ago. I hope you have better winter weather than I had, but yes it will be better than -40, I experienced that in Alaska, which is why I am ok with the treadmill.

We live in Minnesota, about one hour outside of the Twin Cities. I grew up east of Houston, though.  Kind of tooking some getting used to but I love the seasons here.  I miss Texas but it would be hard to go back to that kind of weather too.  My inlaws have a place very nearly on the water in Rockland, ME.  We have been scheming to move there but no really earning potential jobs.

  • A triple newbie here: new to EN, new to power (PT), and new to riding a trainer.  The first thing I learned yesterday on my inaugral interval session was that I am going to need a kiddie pool or something to keep the buckets of sweat off the carpet!

  • Steve-

you can get a mat to put under the trainer to protect the carpet- see jessica's pic above. I think I have a cyclops one. May want to get one for under the treadmill as well.

Also - get some towels to protect the bike from sweat getting into headset

I bought a headset "bra" that velcro's around the headset area.  It has pockets to hold stuff too, like my remote for the mac.

  • I have a large beach towel under my bike and it works great...

  • Tracy, Sheryl and Nate - all great ideas..... while I was out I stopped at Wally World (the big box) and picked up a mat for $20.  That should help although I may need to use a piece of plywood too (got one in the garage) 'cuase the carpet has was put over a thick pad making it kinda soft....

I never thought about the bike getting sweat damaged till I read it here.  Uncontroled sweat corrosion could end up being very expensive indeed.  Still need to do something about that.  For now I'll be using some cheap sweat towels I have.

Thanks to all.  It really is good to be in the Haus....

Sheryl - if you and your fam come east, shoot me an email - maybe we can bike the Loop Road at Acadia and/or up Cadilac Mt.  It is an awesome ride.
