CdA question

I  am scheduling races for next year and have decided to attack Couer d' Alene in June.  The race has sold out to general entry but still has foundation slots available.  i will register through one of those...but, before i do, i figure i will ask:

Does anyone know of another way i can register that doesnt involve spending $1,150?

  • You can get in for regular price if you are doing a 70.3 this spring and can find out which 70.3 has grab-slots to IMCDA (send an e-mail to WTC). E.g., Florida 70.3 typically has 20-50 grab slots for each North American IMs except Canada. I did the Boise 70.3 in 2009 and they had IMCDA general entry slots for 2009 (i.e., one week later) and 2010. You can't just show up at the venue; you have to be registered for the 70.3. Typically, these slots are given out after roll-down. E.g., "we have 50 slots for IMFL...who wants one?" Lots of people waiting around for those and you pay on site. I entered IMFL 2008 that way long after the race was sold out.
  • Never heard of that...is that reliable though do you think?
  • I know that IM CDA slots for that current year were offered at the last two Boise 70.3 races.  I don't know if that is an ongoing policy.  It might be worthwhile dropping an email to the race director with the question.

  • I have no idea why some races get these IM slots and some don't. For example, if you go to the Florida 70.3 website, they still have the 2010 schedule up. The last thing on the schedule is:

05:00 pm 06:00 pm Ironman Qualifying Slots Registration Pavilion in Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

So, it WAS definitely real at Boise 70.3 and Florida 70.3. But I've done Augusta 70.3 and they did not have any. Who knows why WTC does what it does? The key is to find out which 70.3s in 2011 will have them and whether a 70.3 fits your schedule. If you weren't going to do a 70.3 anyway, then you aren't saving any money over the community foundation price.
