need some advice

So, I am seconds away from signing up for IMLV. Here is the deal...I would race Sunday. Wake up Monday, pack up the bike and fly home on MONDAY to be at work on Tuesday!!!

Think it is doable?

Thanks so much!

  • JC' you won't be walking rout on Tuesday, but otherwise, you wouldn't be the first person to attempt such a feat.

Is it a good idea... Well, that's an individual thing ;-)
  •  Ok Mike, so I count that as 1 "doooo iiiiiiiit".

( i may need only one of those to push me over the line! )

  • I say do it. It will be something you can tell the grandkids.
  • Looks like you're in, J!
  • Tucker...
    that's 2!!! Love it....the grandkids! Great image.
    Thank you!
  • @Mike
Looks that way. Smiling ear to ear over here image
  • What? Like we're gonna tell you no? Do it!
  • hahahahaha
thank God the voice of reason didn't stop by this thread! image
  • That should be no problem. I took a 6 am flight out on Tuesday am after LP a couple of years ago. Connected through DC and took a turbo prop to West Virginia. Pretty sure people thought i was handicapped as i had trouble walking down the stairs from the second plane. The worst part was that It was pouring, i had no umbrella and there was no way i could run from the car to the Court House. Was soaked in the hearing. Had plenty of time to write my race report in the airport bar after.
  • Uh, I don't see what the big deal is. That's exactly what I did after my first IM in 2006. I flew home the very next morning and was a work the following day. That was a whole lot easier than what I did in 2008 when I flew home the next morning, packed up a U-haul, and then moved to another state the following day. My "recovery" plan that year involved lots of unpacking :-)
  • I drove home from Louisville on Monday morning (5:00 a.m. wakeup) and went to work Tuesday. Walking up and down stairs was hard, but otherwise not a problem.
  • @Nemo, Chris and Bill. Thanks so much for your stories...love them and looking forward to earning my spot in that club. Thanks for helping me sort all of this out everyone...really really appreciate it
  • JC, I did exactly what you described at IMWI this year. Got up Monday morning at 7am to pack the bike and was out the hotel door at 9am for an 11am flight to NY. I worked a full day on Tuesday. It wasn't comfortable, but I was on such a high from the race I didn't notice the hobbling too much. Most of my Wound Clinic patients don't get around very well at all---so I think they were almost happy to see me slowed down.image
  • JC- I should note that while that's the protocol I followed in 2006 and 2008, in 2010 I chose to stay the extra day so I could relax and enjoy the company of me fellow teammates a little longer :-) Oh- and if you are thinking about a Kona slot of course, you need to be around the next morning so don't book your flight too early! That's never been a concern for me!image
  • @Kitima-Thanks or the reply...nice to know. I am going to go for it.

@Nemo-Ya...I stayed around LP in 2009 for a couple days. Didn't want to leave! Kona slot? Umm...I don't THINK that will be a problem but a guy can dream right?

  • Jeremiah, good to see you back in the forums and back at the IM game.

The answer in whether one can do this or not lies in what one does for work?    In your case, I'm sure you will still be able to play some beautiful music and run that business of yours.

  • Bob!
Thanks so much for the words...You are an IM ANIMAL! I love it! Feels good to be back in the swing of things. Had to take care of some biz this year but it has been great to be back in the saddle. You are too kind with your words about my music bro image Well, I teach Guitar as well and I will have many many hungry students waiting for me!
Hope to see you soon my friend
  • CDA'08 I got in the car Monday afternoon and drove about 4hrs to Bozeman, I think, and then 14-16hrs+ on Tuesday to LA, solo. Was an absolute nightmare and my feet looked like elephant feet when I got home. Recommend compression socks/tights and walk around on the plane during your flight.

  • Do it! Drove back home for 6hrs on monday morning from lake placid. Had to work late monday and then full-day tuesday .
Use compressions socks, maybe a couple of ice-packs. Walk whenever you get a chance.
  • @Rich...got it on the compression socks/tights. Many thank for the post.

  • @Atif. You're in CT! Me too...thanks for the post
