Extra credit for running in 50mph winds.....

Went for my Wednesday run and it was unbelievably windy.   Got me thinking that there needs to be an adjustment to the TSS score for the extreme winds.    I'd see that on the bike for sure with increased power required.   Those repeats into a 90 km/hr (55 mph) just aren't the same as a steady / calm day.

I  worked on the mental aspect by running in that wind combined with 34 deg temperature for sure.

  • I was out there too!

There is a long stretch of unprotected road that I use...it has a long slight incline.  At one point I was actually running hard, looked down and was going 9:30's.

It was pretty crazy with the gusts.

  • It's windy where I live all the time (not 50mph usually, but 20's is pretty standard). And yeah, sure would be nice to have a wTSS (wind adjusted TSS) score! Funny how it seems having the wind at your back doesn't increase your speed nearly as much as it slows you down when it's in your face!

Very true.  However in this case I will say I absolutely noticed when the wind was pushing me.  It felt like someones hand was on my back.  Kinda fun.

  • I'm surprised you got out there in conditions like that. Serious dedication. I think that may have been enough to keep me inside. I have a serious aversion to cold weather.
  • In Winnipeg, you kind of get used to some pretty severe cold. Last year, my record cold run was -47F without the wind chill. I think with wind chill it had to be approaching -55F, give or take a few degrees, but at that point does it really matter.......

    That wind though is tough.
