Should I run a 1/2 Marathon this weekend?

Here is the back story. I registered for this race at a discount last last January and forgot about it. Since then, I have had hip surgety in May but have made a tottal++  fullrecovery (my ftp is 18W higher then my higest last year), done a tun of bikeing, averaging over 150 miles a week for the last 4 weeks but have done ZERO running except for a 5k, 45 days ago that gave me a 48 vdot (5pts lower them my best last year). I wasnt planning on running it at all untill i recieved my confermation email today. A buddy of mine wants me to run it with him and do it in 2:15 a 31vdot. SHOULD I DO IT? or should I stand down and save myself for the first week of the OS?

  • I vote for doing it! I'm racing a 15k with a friend the following weekend, and just going out to have fun. It's nice to race with friends, plus it's only week 1 of the OS....cake walk image
  • Do it instead of the 5k run test; jiggle the week around so you're freshened up for the FTP test.

    We're racers: RACE!

I  think going from one 3 mile run in the last 45 days to running 13 miles in a race (even at an "easy" pace) is a recipe for injury.  I wouldn't risk it.

  • I vote for focusing on the OS. Too much, too soon is not always the best way to go. If you have a set back now you will regret it. It's a risk.

  • Bring your cowbell and cheer on Mr. Friend.

  • You already know exactly what you're _not_ going to do!
