YLC PT Problems

Not sure you if you guys remember but I posted some time ago about the time and distance problems I've been having with my YLC (Yellow PT CPU). Apparently I'm not the only one:

I'm curious, are so few people using the YLC? Has nobody else on EN seen this problem? I've been dealing with support on this issue for months. I also sent e-mails to Jesse (product manager) and have received no response.

I've been an extremely loyal 7-year customer of Saris/Cycleops and have been responsible for a significant number of PT sales in the Northwest. I'm freakin' pissed at their inability to address the problem in a timely manner. I'm so pissed I'm very close to switching to Quarq simply out of principle (even though a simple purchase of a Joule will fix the problem).

Thanks, Chris

  • Chris, I do remember your posts from some time ago, and am really surprised that you're still having problems after contacting customer service. I'd be frustrated too!

I'm also a LYC user, and have not observed the same problem. I'll double check next time i head out for a ride.

It should be really obvious because, at a minimum, your displayed ride time data will NEVER match you downloaded data. NEVER. It appears most of us are seeing about a 1min/hr of ride time (NOT total time) added in our downloaded data but sometimes it's worse. Hard to say exactly what's going on with the distance but it's definitely off on every ride. What usually happens to me is that my downloaded data adds ride time over my displayed ride time (again, ~1min/hr of riding). Displayed distance and downloaded distance are usually the same but are always more than true distance. For example, I had 116miles for displayed and downloaded distance at Kona.

Questions: How long have you had your YLC (I'll assume it's the latest firmware)? It doesn't appear to be related to the firmware. It appears somehow related to anyone who received a new CPU in the last year but that's far from conclusive. Does it have the "2.4" label on the side? All new YLCs over the last year have the "2.4" label removed.

    Thanks, Chris

  •  That does stink about the lack of response.  If you get through ask about trading in your lyc on a Joule.  The deal is pretty hard to pass up and while I did not think the extra data would be very helpful, I think I was wrong about that.  Night and day.

  • Chris- I haven't noticed that issue, but to be honest I never really closely tracked if what was displayed on the LYC is what showed up in WKO after download (if it was off by a lot I'd notice, but 1 min/hour wouldn't catch my attention). I'll pay closer attention over my next few rides and let you know if I see this too.
  • Chris, I bought my LYC with a wired SL+ last year. It was an '08. Could be the reason...
  • i just checked mine from a 1 hour trainer ride yesterday. they don't match exactly, but are only off 14 seconds- PT reads 1.00.11 and WKO+ reads 1.00.25.
  • I just sent my YLC into Saris and just got it back. It was eating batteries on the pace of 1 per every 10 rides. I'll run both CPU's (Joule/LYC) and see if I expereience it tomorrow.

Is the time matching up different in power agent and WKO+ ?

  • Hey Chris,

Just to give you another data point: a guy I know is also having this problem (sits across the hall from me - and, in a funny small world coincidence, I mentioned that ST thread to him some time ago, and he finally got around to replying only after you posted to it last week).

Anyway, he has had the same hub and LYC for a couple years.  He only started having the problem after:

    a) he upgraded his hub to ANT+ using the $100 USB key they send you (actually his LBS did this for him) and

    b) he upgraded the firmware on his LYC.

So it was either a) or b) or a combination of both that did it, but there was no new hardware involved for him.

I also think it's strange that Saris isn't taking this more seriously.  My buddy is starting to get pissed - funny - I emailed Jesse pointing him to that thread and then a couple posts later I see that you emailed him too…maybe he'll eventually get the hint.

Of course I shouldn't complain too much because I don't use a LYC. image

  • Craig,

Interesting... Now that I think about it, my cpu was replaced about a year ago and the one they sent me had the ANT+ upgrade. However, my previous cpu didn't have the upgrade.

    Keith,

Time doesn't match up between anything (display, Wko+ or PowerAgent). However, distance does match but the problem is that it's incorrect. It's obviously harder to identify the latter problem because you have to ride on a well-marked course to see it.

    Thanks, Chris
