New shoes

Wanted to get some input before tomorrow. Runing Marine Corps Marathon and am considering using my Newtons. I have been gradually running more in them and have ~ 70-80 miles in them but the longest run is 9-10 miles. Ya'll think OK to go in them tomorrow or stay with the Asics. Thanks for the thoughts. FWIW I'm 5'10"  and weight 264#.

  • While it sounds like you probably have enough mileage in them, I would err on the side of caution.

  • I have run in Newtons for a few years now and when I first started using them it felt a little odd but only 20 miles or so. Never had an issue after that, even ran one of my IM races on a brand new pair even though that is usually a big no no. I think if you have put in that many miles you will probably be fine.
  • I was a pretty slow Newton adapter last Fall. But for me, the trouble was getting up to 8-10. After that, i had no issues that had anything to do with the shoes. FWIW.

  • Thanks Matt, Jeff and William for the timely responses. I was still very torn wanting to run with the Newtons. Just love the way they feel. But just keep thinking that I might hurt my feet if/when I lost form late in the race. So went with the Asics but I will use the Newtons for my end of OS HM. BTW race went well finished ~ 20 min behind what I was aiming for but looking at where I was 4 weeks ago I happy I finished at all. Legs are doing better than expected even after walking around DC with the family today. Great tour of the Capitol Building as well as the American Hisory Muesum. Natural History as well as Air and Space tomorrow then long ride back to SoFl.
  • Sounds like a wise decision. It really doesn't hurt to be cautious.
