Question on OS plan and Spring...

Glad to be a part of the team, as I joined a couple of days ago.  Here's where I'm at....

trained (probably undertrained) for an IM-distance on 10/23.  Had a DNF, thanks to a stomach bug.  Point being, I'm not completely destroyed.  Have a decent enough run and bike base to make gains over the next 4-5 months.

A++ Race - 15K in Tampa.  Goal is sub 60 minutes.  February 26.

A Race - Gator Half in Sarasota.  VERY flat and fast course.  Wetsuit legal.  Goal is somewhere around 5H.  March 20.

What would be the best way to structure my OS plan?  I also will be purchasing the 70.3 plan in 2011, when they get updated.

And I'll be adding (probably...hopefully) 2 swims/week during the OS.

Thanks to all!!!

(PS - will this thread get moved to a non-trail member thread, or do I just keep it here?)

    (1) you won't need to buy a HIM plan, it's included in your monthly membership.  if you ended up leaving EN before your race, then I suppose you'd need to get one, but otherwise it'll all appear in your training plan central page.

    (2) re: OS structure- I'm guessing you are asking when you should start.  Considering the timing of your A race, it probably would've been best to start the October OS.  You'll want to post this specific Q in the Macro thread for RnP to get a direct answer from them.  But my guess is if your base fitness is good, you should not have too much trouble dropping into the Oct OS 4 weeks out.  But I'd definitely ask RnP cause maybe it would be better to just start in Nov and drop off the last 6 weeks for the HIM plan.

    (3) re 15k: This should coincide with the end of your OS, and plenty of people do a half mary at the end, so this will easily fit in.  Check out Modifying the OS for a 1/2 in the wiki: http://endurancenation.us.dnnmax.co...he+OS+Plan

    (4) finally, it's easy to add swims to the OS, there's a hack in the wiki too.

    Welcome to the team image

  • Hi Jen.  Thanks for the reply.  Very excited to be here.  I didn't know I didn't need to buy the HIM plan.  Excellent news!  Even more excited to be on the team.

Re #2, yes, it's part where do I start the plan, but also how do the coaches recommend I transition, and when does that happen?  I'll  be able to access the wiki on Monday, I think.

And here's another (rather embarassing) set of questions:

    1) Week 1, Tuesday.  It lists Workout 1 - Off, Workout 2 - 3x1 Mile repeats (assuming for run) the day before the 5k test.  Is that an error?

    2) what does HMP (for the run) stand for?  I have looked through both the OS document and Quick Guide, and can't find it.  But I probably missed it.

  • I'm sure since you have a pretty early A race you'll take maybe a week off at most before going into the HIM plan about 4-6 weeks out. But definitely post this Q to the Macro ASAP.

Re: 2nd Tuesday workout, yeah I see it on mine, but it is likely a mistake (it has 0 minutes alloted to it and as you mentioned the day before a vDot, so I wouldn't run).

HMP is your half marathon pace/Z3 pace. The data tool will sort it all out for you one you input your test results.

Definitely spend some time in the wiki, tons of awesome information collected there!
