Posting Hints for the Forums

With the influx of new members I realized that there have been several posting "hints" spread out through various threads, and thought it might be helpful for new members if there was a sticky post (maybe in the general training forum or even in the trial members forum) or a wiki post about some common dos/donts with posting, like

Don't post the same question/thread in different forums, if you wonder where to put it select the more major forum (i.e. general training vs. nov os).

Don't respond to other's posts in the Macro and Micro threads, thats RnP's territory.

Do a quick scan of recent posts to see if someone else has asked your question/posed something similar lately instead of posting very similar questions multiple times.

Don't hijack threads to ask new unrelated questions since many ENers may miss the new question and you won't get the answers you were looking for.

Check the wiki as there's a ton of information in there, and it can help you post a more pointed and specific question instead of a general one.

I'm sure that those who have been around longer will have more and better hints!

  • Nice recommendation. I'll add one. Don't use the Member Feed on the Dashboard to ask questions about what pace to ride in your next race rehearsal or how to interpret your last FTP test. Use the Forum for those discussions. Otherwise your question is going to be easily lost and more importantly, the answers won't live for others to learn from. Use the Member Feed for timely social items where the information is only relative for a day or so- like to give kudos to a fellow teammate or boast about your latest race result.
  • Just a suggestion - I think this should be in the wiki.  This way it lives "above" the forums and thus covers all of them.

And because I'm kinda getting tired of all the sticky posts.  Some of the forums have 5+ now

  • Added to the wiki here, thanks all!
  • Ha, I liked the don't be THAT guy addition. So true.
  • Patrick, not for nothing, but that Wiki post should be sent to every member in an email as I do not think most newbies know or understand how and where to ask questions and post stuff.
