CompTrainer data Question

I am a newbie to all the power stuff; have a PowerTap Plus and downloaded the data to "just" my power agent software.  I mistakenly (if this is a real word) deleted the data before i put it into WKO.

I looked at the data file, its a .GZ meaning its a compressed format.  i used 7-zip uncompressed it and ti looks like "real" data.  anyone know if its possible to get the data into WKO or TrainingPeaks?

It would be nice but not a must have set of data, its more of a mental excercise and curiosity.  thanks.

  • Just to clarify, you want to load your CompuTrainer workout data into WKO? This is possible, but I'm not familiar with the .GZ file extension. At the completion of a workout on the CT you of course have to select the "Save Performance" option, then the data files I think are under the "Perfs" folder, for Performance data.

The next steps I remember how to do but don't remember the exact menu process so perhaps someone else can chime in. From my hazy memory, I don't remember the exact file format that the Perf files are saved in, but there is an extra step before you can load them into WKO. Next, I open up the CT ErgMode program again, but don't actually launch into manual ErgMode, in the menu system choose Export and you should see the Export Options, I only the few fields that a normal computer would actually record (Distance, Speed, HR, Power, etc) rather than the full set that the CT can record (L/R power etc) then you choose the Perf file and it will convert the file to a text format which WKO can parse.

There may be a more straightforward way to do this, but since I have a PM as well I probably like most people just load from my 310xt rather than from the CT 99% of the time.
  • thanks so much, i did not realize that there was an export option for .pwr files that will go into TrainingPeaks.  kewl, now when i really need this I can easily put it into TP.com.

    thanks again.

  • One thing that I learned was that you can drag the file directly from windows explorer to WKO. No problem!

One caution is that some of the compu-trainer files get loaded into the wrong year. You'll always need to double check.
