Heat acclimization study in NY Times

Found this study in the NY Times.

Gist of the study's results: The cyclists who were heat acclimated performed anywhere from 4 to 8 percent better than they had before they trained in the heat, while the control group did not improve at all.

Wouldn't you have to get into it first?

  • I train in late-afternoon heat here in TX, and I can tell you (n=1) that my hot training in the 100+humidity (= heat index) temps down here, definitely make me feel so much better when I compete in cooler events. The only thing I usually have to deal with is keeping my hot hydration strategy on a cooler day, usually I end up visiting the bathroom a LOT more.
  • Hope that's true...might help me kick butt at IMAZ! Like Scott, I spend many hours training in sweltering sweatfest conditions.
  • Does that mean I should go 8% more watts tomorrow at IMFL? ;-)
