advise on my goals for the spring

Questions for all, I have never done a 70.3. I trained for, and was completely prepared, for Vineman last year. I got very sick that weekend and could not do it. I have completed numerous other olympic tris, iron swims and distance trail events. I have my sights on Vineman next year but want to target an event between now and then. Do I do the Wildflower 70.3? (tough first timer I would imagine) or the Wildflower Oly? Or find another easier 70.3 around the same time? Say Napa? Opinions?

  • I guess the biggest question is this...what do you WANT to do? What will get you fired up and ready to pound out the intervals in the pain cave? I think that should be your primary consideration when determining goals.

there is nothing wrong with picking a really hard course as your first 1/2. You have RnP plus a team helping you train and race smart.
  •  LOVE that approach! I think my least favorite option is to do the oly. I will do a 1/2 and let my wife decided where she wants to spend the weekend!

    thanks Eric.

  • Martin, I think you are right on. Pick a destination half and we'll help you get the rest done! image
  •  thanks. it will be either the Wildflower 1/2 or the Napa 1/2. They are both on the same weekend so my training plan will not change too much. Although I think I should get some real hill work in if I am going to do Wildflower don't you think?

  • if you have a powermeter, then no hills required. You might want to do an early season epic bike weekend with some hills in it to be mentally ready however....are you just looking for another reason to go to Napa before the race??? image
  • I just picked Eagleman and Savageman for my first 2 HIMs. I don't think they're know as the easiest (but what do I know?). May as well dive in head first. Starting the OS plan Jan. 1 and have a good feeling it'll get me there.
