Random - anybody know where to buy XP cheaply for wko+?

Thought I had some copies of XP laying around, but they must have grown legs.

I just got a copy of Parallels to deal with wko+ on my macbook, only to discover I have no windows copies, & retail they are like $150, which is nuts.

Does anybody have any insight?

Thx, Ed.

  •  This isn't what you want to hear, but I went through this about a year ago trying to get my Polar software to work on my Mac.   I bought VMWare Fusion, then bought a download copy of XP from Microsoft.  To make a long story short, it was a miserable, frustrating experience which ended with me returning XP for a refund.

The good part is that I sold my Polar on eBay, bought a Garmin 310XT, and have officially bid farewell to Windows forever.

  • I'm trying not to create another thread, so since this one has something to do with Mac and WKO+, I'll hijack it since it hasn't been used in over a month. Ok, to the question----I just bought an iMac and I'm wondering what people use to run WKO+ 3.0. I actually had the guy at the store go in and set it up in Mac and he used a program called "Crossovers". I had asked about running windows on Mac and he said with this other program i didn't have to bother. After he loaded it up, it looked like it would run WKO+ fine, but I don't know if this is a Mac "trick". He said that to run Windows on a Mac would cost me another couple hundred dollars and why spend that when I didn't have to.

Has anyone been successful using "Crossovers"? What other things are people using and how much will they cost me? I do have the option of keeping an old PC running, but I'd rather not have 2 computers if I don't need it.

    Thanks for your help
  •  What  he installed is called "Crossover" from CodeWeavers.com (
http://www.codeweavers.com/). These are the guys who write WINE (which is an environment that lets you run most windows programs in Linux). It's sort of an Windows emulator.

If it works running WKO+, then sure, but I would make sure you can get your money back if it doesn't work exactly the same, because I imagine the WKO+ guys will not consider it a supported configuration. If you have an old PC running, then you have a windows license, and you could just buy VMware Fusion or Parallels, and install that Windows OS.

How do you run that old copy of Windows on your Mac?  The startup discs that came with the Windows computer won't allow it, I've tried it.  Using Fusion or Parallels requires also purchasing a copy of Windows, AND a copy of WKO+.

  • Pick up an old computer off Craig's list with XP - just make sure it includes the original install CD and code. Shit, I might even have an old XP or Vista CD you can have - I'll check when I get home from work.

I have a Windows computer running XP from 2003.  I tried the original CD with VMWare Fusion and it didn't work.  The CD actually says "only for use with a new PC."

    Thanks for the offer though.

  • I found a copy of Win 2000 Pro that I haven't used in years if you want it - with activation code.
  • Thanks Joel.  I will try my XP disc one more time and see if I can get it to work.
