Thanksgiving Training

I'm taking my bike trainer to my aunt's house so I can still get my workouts in over Thanksgiving weekend.  Peer pressure -- who'll join me in not slacking over Thanksgiving?  I figure I can set it up on her car port.  They already think I'm crazy so I nothing to lose there.

  • I would like to, but I don't think that would fly with gf especially after dragging her to all day CX racing for the last two months . I am doing a Turkey Trot in Minn though!

  • I'm staying home. My in-laws are coming in for town so no slacking for me. I tried to get them interested in a local turkey trot, but not this year. I will stay in the pain cave. If the weather holds I will try and get outside.
  • I'm doing this:

    LA-Barstow-Vegas

500+ miles of dirtbiking in two days. Last year my exotic Italian dirtbike broke down in the middle of the desert and I had to fix it using a nail and some wire I scrounged. Ended my ride on Day 1. Really looking forward to doing the whole thing this year.

Pre-Ride: This Friday I drive my truck to Vegas, park it either at the airport or the host hotel for the ride. Get a cab to the airport, fly to Phoenix for IMAZ, get a ride back to LA on Monday. Friday get a ride with my moto to Lancaster for the start of this dirt ride. Ride to Vegas, toss my bike in the back of the truck and drive back to LA early Sunday morning

The guy I'm riding with has a bitchen helmet cam so hopefully I'll have some good video for everyone.

  • 8-mile Turkey Trot in downtown Dallas, followed by beers at the cemetary across from the finish line after (no, we're not disrespecting any graves by standing on them, there's a huge grassy area we use). Then lots of good food at a friend's house, followed with more beers!

My company makes us work Friday, but hopefully I'll be able to "work from home" - which basically means NO WORK.
  • Thursday is a rest day on my schedule (normal Friday) and I think I'll need the whole day to pitch in and help with the meal prep.  We celebrate Thanksgiving at my mother's house 60 miles away on Friday.  If the weather is as nice as it was last year, I'll ride the bike.  Solo if I have to, on the tandem if I can recruit a stoker from among the daughters.  I'll throw the bike in the car or truck for the ride home in the dark.

@Scott:  wish I could do the Turkey Trot this year, it sounds like fun, would like to meet some of the Dallas area EN crew.  Looking at the map, we have enough folks for a North Texas sleeper cell.

  • I'll be doing upper-body strength training image mmmmm I can't wait, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays!
  • I'm staying home too so no worries about getting the training in. The real challenge will be to get enough training hours to counteract the Thanksgiving day meal! I love Turkey day!
  • I plan on getting the Thursday ride in on the trainer real early, then volunteer at 7:00 AM at a local Turkey Trot. I know the organizers and it's the first year for the event - and over 750 registered so far! I was going to run in it, but they need the help. Then eating and napping the rest of the day. Should be fun to spectate. Since I'm home all weekend, the weekend workouts will be according to the plan.
  •  I'd like to, as well, but that won't fly.  Best I'm going to be able to do is rearrange workouts to get the running done over the weekend, and the bike done during the week.  Definitely not ideal, but family and football first, right?

  •  I'm hosting, I'm cooking, I'm training!

  • I'm training, smoking a turkey, then watching football and drinking beer. Hey, isn't that what we always dreamed of doing in the OS during the hot summers?
  • I'll be just getting settled into the new house. I will be doing the workouts though, as no real big plans. Might even hit the trails for some running plus doing the 5k Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day.
  • I'm doing a 10k.
    Sleeping.
    Eating.
    watching football.
  • Think I am doing the 5k and the 10k this year, 5k all out, 10k with my sis, does that count as slacking?
  • I'll be going back home to Florida (from where I currently work/live in Iowa) starting next Tues-Sunday which probably means I'll have plenty of great opportunities to get some good runs in. I'll have have to see if I can borrow a bike though, I'm definitely looking forward to some nice weather. I probably won't crush any workouts or punish myself in the process, but want to use this as an opportunity to enjoy being outside again and remember that once upon a time, before the OS, before the cold and dreary days, excercising used to be fun image
  • Turkey Trot for us...but we'll be home and training like fools. We'll still need the motivation though!
  • Traveling from Iowa to Pierre, SD. So leaving the cold and going to colder and snow. Putting my baby (cervelo) on the bike rack and hauling her with me. I am really digging this OS thing and seeing myself improve. Learning to pace myself better each time on the intervals but having trouble gaining weight vs loosing. Started 11/1/10 at 160 and now am at 176. I have did nothing but cut all my long runs out and up my Protein and calories to match my workouts. Well going to try and get back to 160 my the end of December. Noted the weight gain on the low back and knee's.

On a brighter note I am thankful to have such a great set of team mates and coaches who are not afraid to speak their minds and go 100% all the time. Enjoy Thanksgiving all.
  • I going to shift my schedule around (did think about packing up my trainer and taking it to the beach though ).  Figure I'll pull in my rest day to Thu and do my Wed run on Fri and my Thu bike on Wed (before we get on the road).  Then pick up with Sat bike when we get back late sat night.  I get more SAUs that way

  • I love training during holiday weeks! Extra recovery time, extra recovery food, lots more recovery sleep! What I especially love about TG is that I don't have to do anything WRT meal prep and clean up! How that works year after year I will never understand. But I dig it! I'm also hopping for some good extra-credit XC ski outings this week!
  • Driving down to VA. Planning on doing a local turkey trot race, and couple bike rides in while down there.
  • Argh, just checked the weather for Rochester. The only day there's sun is the day I'm driving (natch). Thursday, Turkey Trot day, is supposed to be rainy. Greeeaaat. The last time that happened, it was 33 degrees and pouring the whole race. My clothes were so heavy with water when I got home that I didn't notice my iPod was still in my pants pocket when I threw them in the wash.
  • I think I'm hitting the local Turkey Trot in Washington Park after my 2x12 on the trainer.
  • I thought all this training on Turkey day was an excuse to get away from family? ;-) My parents have a house up by they Vineman bike course, So, i'm going to ride a loop of the bike course (or part of it).
